CHARLES R. BARBER, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
DANCING FIGURE OR DOLL.
Application filed June 13,
T 0 all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHARLES It. BARBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain ne N and useful Improvements in Dancing F igures or Dolls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to dancing figures or dolls, and has for its object to provide improved means for supporting such figures in such relation to the rotary disk of a phonograph or the like that the operation of the latter will produce motions of the figures simulating dancing. Various adjustments are provided by means of which it is possible to produce motions in time with the music, which, it will be appreciated, is a. decided advantage in a device of this kind. This adjustment includes means for varying the position of the figure or figures vertically with respect to ythe oper# ating disk, and also laterally with respect thereto. The movements are produced by small ribs or cleats striking the feet of the figures, and it is obvious 'that when the figures are located in different positions, steps in different times will be produced.
Other advantages of the present structure will be apparent from the following description, and although the device, as shown, is particularly adapted'for use on a phonograph, it may be used in connection with any rotary table or the like.
In the accompanying drawings, Fig. l is a front elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. 4 is a vertical section of one of the posts enlarged. Fig. 5 is a. section on the line 5-5 of Fig. L1. Fig. 6 is a section on the line 6 6 of Fig. 1. Fig. 7 is a. section on the line 7 7 of Fig. 6.
The support for the dancing figure or figures includes a pair of. blocks 6 one of which may be located or` placed at each side of the revolving table 7 of a. phono graph or the like. These blocks are of suliicient size and weight to remain in position without other fastening devices.
Supported upon each block is a pair of posts, each of which consists of a lower rod 8 and an upper telescopic tube 9 which may be adjusted to different heights on the rod and fastened by thumb screw 10. At the top, the tube 9 has a fixture 11 which supports one end of a cross-rod 12, fastened 1923. Serial No. 645,126.
Y by' a thumb screw 13. Slidably mounted upon each rod 12 is a tube 14 which may be fixed on the rod by a thumb screw 15 and depending from each tube is a wire hook 17 from which a jointed doll or figure 18 is suspended by a loop 19 or the like. In Fig. 1, the hook is shown single, to
support one figure, but in F ig. 6, it is shown double, to support two figures. The construction above described is duplicated as shown in Fig. 2, so that both rods 12 may be used to support one or more figures.
The legs of the ligure are operated by cleats or ribs 2() on a disk 21 placed upon the central part of the table 7, or upon a phonographrecord thereon, and the figure is so adjusted that the ribs will strike the feet of the figure and so operate the same e to imitate dancing.
The adjustable posts permit the heightof the bars 12 to be varied, and accordingly the support can be used with figures of different sizes, or any ligure can be so positioned as to give the desired contact of the ribs with the feet of the figure. Also, the sleeves 14 can be adjusted along the rods 12, or the rods themselves can be adjusted, 'whereby the figures can be hung in diferer t radial positions with respect to the disk, and so the steps produced can be made quicker or slower, according to the time of the music. rIhis feature adds considerableto the attractiveness of the device. The multiple rods and hooks permit various numbers of figures to be operated at the same time, and one can be placed slightlykk I claim:
1. The combination with a rotary disk having ribs, of a support comprising a pair of extensible posts standing respectively at opposite sides of the disk, a cross-bar between the posts, and a dancing figure suspended from the cross-bar in position for contact of its feet with the ribs on the disk, the suspendingl device for the figure being adjustable along the cross-rod to support the figure in different radialpositions7 4with respect to the disk.
2. The combination with :1 rotary disk A having ribs, of a support comprising :L pau* of extensible posts standing respectively at opposite sides of the disk` a cross-bar be tween the posts, and a dancing ligure suspended from the cross-bar in position for contact of its feet with the ribs on the disk, 10 the suspension devices including '(1 sleeve slidable along the cross-bar.
In testimonv whereof, I aix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
