Emu-DISPLAYING DEVICE .a device for displaying cloths or goods to a prospective purchaser ofa suit or the like, in a manner which will represent the cloths or goods as they would appear if made up in the form of a suit. 7
The invention contemplates, among other features, the provision of a device of 'a simple and durable construction, wherein cloths or goods can be readily and quickly arranged to appear as if they were made up into suitings, and wherein furthermore, the representations of thesuitingswill appear in relief and have the effect of being actually applied to the body of a erson.
in the further disclosure 0 the invention, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specifica' tion, in which similar characters of reference denote corres onding parts in all the views, and in which Figure -1 is a front elevation of the device,
with the goods displayed therein; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view, taken on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the framing member, removed from the base or stand; Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the backing, removed from the base or stand; Fig. 5 is a horizontal transverse sectional view, taken on.,the line 55 in Fig. 4, and
Fig. 6 is a horizontal transverse sectional view, taken on the line 66 in Fig. 4.
Referring more particularly to the views, I provide a base or stand 10, preferably made of a strap like metal, to form forwardly projecting-stop flanges 11, and rearwardly inclined uprights 12, secured near their free upper ends b suitable braces 13, forming a part of the ase or stand. .The said base is carried on swiveled cas'ters14, so that the same can be conveniently rolled or pushed over a floor to arrange the device in exhibiting-position before the prospective purchaser.
Mounted toswing on the lower portions of the uprights 12 isa framing member 15,
adapted to have its lower edge 16 abut Ipedlnoflon of Letters latent.

against the forwardly projecting flanges 11, when the said framing member is swung forwardly upon the base 10, so that the forward swmgin movement of the framing member will be imited by the flanges 11, and prevent the base from toppling over. The framing member 15 is preferably of a rectangular configuration and has a cut-out portion 17 simulating the general configuration or outline of a suiting. Pictures 18, representing a face, hands, slloes, collar and tie, are pasted or otherwise placed upon the frontv face of the framing member 15, toconform to the cut-out portion 17, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, and carried on the bod of the framing member are wire-like mem ers 19 projecting into and across the cut-out portion 17 to indicate the general lines and details of a garment, such as a coat.
A backing 20. is rigidly supported on the upr g ts 12, and-is preferably made of wood, papier-mfich, or pressed metal, to resemble the general outlines of a persons body, with the configuration of the backing being similar to that of the cut-out portion 17, so that the backing can be fitted into the said cutout portion. The desigt of the backing is clearly shown in Fig. 4, and by referring also to Fi 5 and 6, it will be seen that the front sur cc of the backing has a series of integral portions 21, set out in relief, to indicate the lines of crcasings of the suiting as the same will appear when actually made up. A locking member, of an preferred 1 type, is mounted to swing upon t e rear face accomplish the effect, the locking member is disengaged from the backing 20 and the framing member is swuhg forwardly to lie in spaced relation to the backing and provide sufiicient space to permit 0 inserting the goods 23 between the framing member and the backing. When this has been done, the framing member is swung back'to its normal. osition, thus causing the goods to REISSUE'D appear t ough and extend into the cut-out ed to represent the sleeves, lapels, collar and breastings of the coat or other garment. Thus it will be seen that the pictures 18, on
the framing. member 15, and which as a whole will re resent a mounting, takenin conjunction with the goods 23, set forth as mentioned, simulation of a pherson attired in a t suit, and in whic various parts of the garments will appear asthey would when actuall;I coverin the limbs of a person. cl aving usdescribed my invention, I
1. 1 11 a sample displaying device, the combination witha base, of a backing adapted to have fabric placed over its face, said backing having ELI-time thereof formed in relief on the e of the backing, a framing member havingha cut-out portion simulating the outline of t e body, mthgthe portions of the backing in relief-a'dapted to lie in the will present a figure having the ai ored cut-out portion of the framing member, and wire-like members on the framing member and lying within the plane of the cut-out i rtion to press against the fabric so that t ose portions of the fabric coverin vthe portions in relief on the backing wifil be p'essed forwardly adjacent the said mom 2. In a sample displaying device, the combination with a base, of a framing member mounted to swing thereon and provided with a cut-out portion simulating the outline of the body, "a; backing carried by the base set out in relief and having portions thereof with the said on the face of the backing, portions adapted to project into the cut-out ortion of the framm% member, said backmg being adapted to ave a fabric placed over its face and be visible through the cutout portion of the framing member, and the framing member and lyingmeans on within the plane of the about portion, said means being adapted to press against the fabric so that the portions of the fabric coverin the raised portions on the face of the bac 'ng will stand out in relief adjacent the said means.
In testimon whereof I afiix my signature 1 in presence 0 two witnesses.
