Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led April 16, 1914. Serial No. 832,180.
mounted and folded up in compact form for transportation and storage, as hereinafter set forth, theinvention consisting in the specific `construction and arrangement of parts `described and claimed,-a distinctive feature being the use of p a medial fulcrum member to which the leg members and upper extensionsjthereof are pivotally connected in such manner that the extension members may be folded within the leg members when not required for use as hereinafter set forth.

ln carrying out my invention practically .1t 1s obvious that three or more legs L, and three or more extensions E, may be used as may be found most expedient. Thus in all but Fig. l2, of the drawings which show a` folding seat structure `for convenience of illustration, three legs L, and threeextension arms E, are provided for and used, whereas in said Fig. l2, is shown a medial fulcruni member adapted forthe use of four legs, extensions &c.,-a`s for instance in the case of a table where the surface to be supported is comparatively large &c.

Each extension arm E, consists of a strip or flat rod of metal (preferably) like unto one of the leg members Z, one end of such extension arm being pivotally attached to the medial fulcrum member M, by one of the rivets m2, and bel ing positioned thereon between the upper ends of the leg members Z, Z, as shown particularly in Figs. 3, and 5. The other or outer extremity of each extension arm E, is formed with a button c, or equivalent device for engagement with any one of several sockets s, in the seat members S', S2, S3, or with eyelets s", in a canvas seat or top S", as indicated in Fig. l1.
The stud or button c, may be formed direetly upon the extension arm E, or it may be formed separately with flanges c', c', which straddle, and are riveted to, the end of the extension E, as shown in Fig. lll; or any other well known mechanical expedient may be utilized in effecting connection with the top or seat, as may be found most expedient. The ball and socket coupling however (like unto the so-called glove button fastening) affords a neat and compact device for the purpose. lVhen the seat Sections S, S2, S3, are made of wood or comparatively soft material washers w, may be interposed between the under sides of said sections and the shoulders e2, e2, adjacent `to the buttons e, onthe ends of the extension arms E; and four of these bearing shoulders may be provided as shown in Fig. 16, extending radially, so as to steady the arms E, laterally as well as longitudinally.
When the seat or top consists of three or more sections S, S2, S3, foldable one over the other, as will be understood by reference particularly to Figs. l, 8, and 9, the metallic sockets s, are utilized to pivotally connect one, say S2, to the other members S, S3, the free ends of the two latter being coupled together when the button e, of one of the extension arms E, is inserted through a hole in one (the lower) part and into a socket s, in the other (the upper) part as the ends overlap with said hole and socket in coincidence, as shown in Fig. 15. Thus constructed the sections S, S2, S3, of the top can be readily detached from the extension arms E, and folded in alinement with each other as inFigs. 8, and 9, thus occupying the least possiblespace for storage or transportation. Or instead of the folding top sections S, S2, S3,a top SX, of canvas or other flexible material may be substituted if preferred, formed with button or eyelet holes, sx, for engagement with the buttons e, on the extension arm E, as indicated in Fig. 1l, before referred to in this connection.
The legs L, are sustained in their extended position by reason of the contact of the upper ends of the bars Z, Z, with an inner surface or wall m3, of the medial fulcrum member M,'as shown in Fig. 6, and in simi- Or if preferred each extension y.

What l claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a device of the character designated, a medial fulcrum member, legs and extension arms pivotally mounted on said member for extension in opposite directions, a seat member composed of foldable sections, metallic socket members pivotally connecting said sections at their ends and button members on the free ends of said arms engageable 1n said socket members.
