To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMMON K. Jones, citizen of the United States, residing at Neosho,;in the county of Newton and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Subsoiler Attachments to Plows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the sub-soiling attachments for plows, and has for one of its objects to provide a simply constructed device which may be applied without ma terial structural change to plows and similar implements of various forms. 1
Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed device of this character which may be readily adjusted to control the depth to which the hoe'portionof the device operates.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed device which may be transferred from one form ofrplow or like implement to another. I 7
Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed device in which provision is made for releasing the hoe and preventing breakage of the parts in event of the hoe encountering abnormal obstructions. With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims; and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention. Figure l is a side elevation of a portion of a conventional plow from the landside with the improvement applied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of the improved device with the beam in section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the parts shown in'l ig. 2'. Fig. 4 is an enlarged perspective view of the combined gripping and holding members whereby the device is supported from the beam of the plow.
Corresponding and. like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The improved device includes a beam member including a stock or body 10 upturned at its forward end as represented at 11 and downturned at its rear end as represented at 12, the downturned portion 12 being adapted to receive the share of end-oiler blade 13.
Specification of Letters Patent.
The upturned portion 11 of the body 10 is designed to receive a holding device whereby the body is coupled to the beam of a plow, thelatt'er being represented conventionally at 1%. The members l5-16 are formed with their inner or con tiguous faces conforming to the sides of the beam 14 and closelyembracing the same. The member 15 is formed with inwardly directed portions 19 20, while the member 16 is provided with a socket 21 at its rear end. The portion 19 extendstoward but does not quite reach, the contiguous face of the member 16 which bears against the rear face of the beam l i with the upwardly directed portion 11 of the body 10 engaging between the inwardly directed oifsets l920 as represented in Fig 2, while the inwardly directed portion 20 engages in the socket 21 of the member 16. A clamp bolt 22 engages through the members 15-16 and thus enables them to be firmly clamped in position against the plow beam. The members 1516 may be adjusted upon the beam as required by simply loosening the nut of the bolt 22. The projecting portion 20 is provided with threaded apertures to receive set screws 24 which are thus in position to bear against the rear face of the upwardly directed portion 11 of the body 10. By this simple arrangement an efficient and a convenient sub-soiler attachment is provided which may be readily appliedwithout material structural change to plow beams of various forms and clamped at any desired point upon the beam, while at the same time the beam member of the attachment may be adjustedto control the action of the. hoe portion 13, and when required, the vertical portion 11 of the beam 10 may be adjusted at its highest point and thus holding the sub-soiler blade 13 above the ground and in inoperative position.
Having thus described the invention,
