While I prefer to use the spring actuated .pin as a detent because of its simplicity and cheapness, it is to be understood that it may be modified in form at will, 0r replaced by an other form of latch or detent which will hold the jaw E temporarily to the right, and which will permit the jaw to be forced backelfzlrd'tq the left after the casting action.
Having described my/invention, what I claim is r l. In a-machine of the. class described, the `combination of a slotted mold, and the jaw movable freely at will across the face of I* the mold to close the slot thereof, and the spring-actuated detent G to engage the jaw adapted to cover the mold, a yielding detent .I
to hold the jaw in said position, and means for automatically movingthe jaw backward notwithstanding the resistance of the yielding detent.

In a machine of the class described, the combination of the movable jaw E and a yielding detent which engages and holds the jaw in adjusted position and is disengaged therefrom by the return movement of the aw. In a machinevof the class described, and in combination with the sliding jaw E,.a spring actuated detaining pin arranged to engage the jaw in one position and to be disngaged by the removal of the jaw thererom.
5. In a machine ofthe class described, the
combination of the ressure lever F, jaw D, the vopposing jaw adapted to hold the jaws E and D in their extreme right hand positions against the pressure of the lever F.
6. In a typographical machine, the combination of a slotted mold, a pump stop lever, a line clamping jaw movable freely at will across the-face of the mold to close the slot thereofand adapted by such movement to shift the stop lever to inactive position, and a detent for holding'the jaw 1n its moved position so as to maintain the stop lever in its inactive position.
