WITESSZSQWI Cg/1% @WW v Ji /W552 A TTOR/VE Y8 {TE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANZ A. FULLER, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE J. E. MERGOTT COMPANY, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW J ERSEY;
POWDER CONTAINER AND DISPENSER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANZ A. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Powder Containers and Dispensers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make, construct, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to numerals of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification.
The invention relates to powder'containers and dispensers, and relates more particularly to a device of that type used for carrying and applying toilet powder.
The object of the invention is to provide novel and improved means so as to permit the toilet powder to be readily and instantly applied when desired from time to time, while preventing accidental escape of the powder from the container or case.
A further object of the invention is to provide means to freely allow the powder to escape through the powder passage, thereby avoiding any liability of the powder being retarded in its escape through the powder passage by breaking up the" powder in the container when the same becomes caked or packed as has heretofore been customary.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, and speci fically pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention,.Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my invention, Fig. 2 represents a similar view showing the lid or cover removed, Fig. 3 represents a partial axial section of the device shown in Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 represents a side elevation of the hollow cap with the closure secured thereto.
Similar. characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout all the different figures of the drawings.
In the drawings 1 represents a cylindrical casing or tube, closed at one end and provided at its other end with a removable extension constitutin a lid or cover 2. Any convenient form 0 fastening means such as Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 8, 1913.
Patented Oct. 27, 1914. Serial N 0. 793,999.
for instance a bayonet lock 30 is employed to fasten the casing 1 and lid 2 together.
The lid or cover 2 comprises an openended tubular sleeve 3, to one end of which is fitted a hollow cap 4:, provided with a centrally arranged aperture 5 and two diametrically oppositely-arran ed depending upturned lugs or ears 6 for the reception of the end of the coil spring 7.
The closure consists of a tapered head 8 provided with an annular enlargement 9 and an integral hollow extension 10. A breaker 11 of any convenient form, the extremity of which is flattened out, as at 12 and provided with an aperture 13 for the reception of the other end of the coil spring 7, is secured in the extension 10 in any convenient manner.
It will thus been seen that the closure and the powder breaker are carried by the lid or cover by means of the coil spring 7, and removal of the lid or cover 2 frointhe casing or tube 1 enables the tube to be filled with powder or the like without affecting the closure, breaker or spring. Downward pressure being applied upon the tube 1 causes the tapered head 8 of the spring pressed closure to be forced away from the aperture 5 in the hollow ca 4, ermitting a portion of the contents of tlie tube to escape, at the same time causing the breaker 11 to break up the caked or packed powder in the casing or tube.
The construction of the various parts is of such a nature as to lend themselves to be readily manufactured by the ordinary punches and dies.
Experience has demonstratedthat the organization above described is a hi 'hly efiicient one, and while the device above described is the preferred embodiment of my present invention, I do not care to restrict myself to the exact details of construction, combination and arrangement herein set forth, it being obvious that minor variations thereof not involving the exercise of invention may be made by any skilled mechanic, and such departure from what is herein described and claimed not involving invention, I consider within the scope and terms of my claim.
I claim:
A container for powder, comprising a tube closed at one end and provided at its nuance other end with a lid or cover, said lid or end of which is secured to the oppositely cover comprising an open ended tubular exarranged lugs of the hollow cap and the tension, an apertured hollow cap provided other end of which is secured to the powder with oppositely arranged spring securing breaker.-
5 lugs secured in one end of said extension, llhis specification signed and witnessed 15 a spring pressed closure located within said this 22nd day of September, 1913.
lid or cover, one end of which passes FRANZ A. FULLER. through the apertured cap, a powder breaker Witnesses: secured to the other end of said closure and W. H. CONKLIN,
10 a closing spring located in said cover, one FREDK. O. FIsoHER.
