JOHN n. cooLnY AND JAKE H. oooLnY, or cnARKsvrLLn, TENNESSEE.
Mor- .5:
Patented Sept. 29, 1914. Serial No. 758,443. r
To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that we, JOHN R. CooLEY and JAKE l-l. Cooney, citizens of the United States, residing at Clarksville, in the county of ll/iontgomery, State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mops; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
rlhe object of the invention resides in the provision of a novel form of mop head which will permit the fabric portion of the head to be readily removed when worn and a new fabric portion substituted.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of improved means for securing the mop head to the handle.
lfvith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts tobe hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
1n describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a mop constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2, a plan view of same; Fig. 3, a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2 on an enlarged scale; Fig. 4, a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2 on an enlarged scale; Fig. 5, a detail perspective view of the head securing plate carried by the handle, and Fig. 6, a detail perspective view of the head securing plate and the frame of the mop head associated therewith. v
Referring to the drawings the improved mop head is shown as comprising a frame A formed of a single length of wire and having a substantially circular form. The ends of the wire from which the frame A is constructed are extended to form parallel arms 10y and 11. The inner ends of these arms 10 and 11 are disposed in a plane substantially p `and passage 25.
at right angles to the plane of the circular portion of said frame, while the outer ends of said arms are bent laterally as at 13 and the free ends of these laterally bent portions are again bent to form angular terminals 14. The frame A is attached to a handle l5 by means of a securing plate 17 which extends longitudinally of the handle and is attached to the latter by means of a screw 17 This plate 17 vis provided at its outer end with a transverse iange 18 in which is formed recesses 19 and 20. The plate 16 is further provided inwardly of the flange 18 with another transverse lange 21 in which is formed openings 22 and 23 disposed in alinement respectively with the recesses 19 and 20. Formed in the plate 17 between the ianges 18 and 21 is an opening 24 which registers with a passage 25 extending transversely through the handle 15. Extending through the opening 24 and passage 25 is the threaded shank of a clamping bolt 26 which has engaged thereon a winged nut 27 whereby the head of the screw may be drawn toward the plate 17.
` In attaching the frame A to the handle 15 the bolt 26 is removed from the opening 24 The angular ends 14 of the arms 10 and 11 are then engaged through respective openings 22 and 23 of the flange 21 and the arms 10 and 11 then positioned in the recesses 20 and 19 respectively. The bolt 26 is then applied in the opening 24 and passage 25 and the nut 27 operated to draw the head of the bolt into clamping relation against the laterally bent portions 13 of said arms.
The fabric portion of the mop head is indicated at 28 and is secured to the frame A by looping the strands thereof over the circular portion of said frame and then binding the strands together with a strap element 29.
What we claim is The combination of a handle, a plate secured'to the handle, a transverse flange on one end of the plate provided with spaced recesses, a second transverse ange on said plate provided with spaced openings alining respectively With the recesses of the first named In testimony whereof, I affix my signature,
