To all whom, it, may concern- I Beit'known that I, THOMAS M. HOPKINS, a'citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in'the'county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in-Stovepipes, of which the following is a specification.
"onewithin the other. i
I This invention -relates to portable stove pipes and consists in certain improvements 7' in stove p'ipes comprising a plurality of sec tions, adapted tobe collapsed or .telescoped -More especially the inventionflrelatesgto a portable" stove pipe adapted for use in con nection -with tent'stove'sand the like.
' One; of the" improvements cons sts 1 1n pro-v viding one of the-s'ectionswith"ajacket, so
,thatithe pipe:may be extended through a tent-roof without; danger of setting fire to r the same. I 1
Another. improvement cons s in means for'holding the jacketed: section-improper i n i s a I the inventlon consists 1Il general'bf :the derelation to thejtent, said .means 7 also-serving to hold the sections together when collapsed. iviththetabovejand other objects in View tails of construction.uand icombination of parts hereinafter fully described and illustrated in the accompanying" drawings, in which; Y
Figure l is outline View showing-a por tion of a tent with the device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is aside elevation of the pipe in extended condition. Fig. 3 is a detail view of'a section of the jacketed joint. Fig. 4 is a view similar 'to..Fig.-.2 but with the parts collapsed. Fig.6 is a view similar to Fig. 2
, showing a modification of the device. Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig.4 showing the to the use of my invention, as the tent pole may be provided with chains or with means modification of Fig. 5 collapsed.
In Fig. "1 is shown a tent roof 10,- astove 11 and a tentjpole 12; on this tent pole is fixed a cross arm or arms 13 for the attachment of the collapsible pipe indicated in general at a. Thesearms are not essential for attaching thestove pipe chains thereto. Although the pipe may consist of any desired number of joints, there will always be provided a section 14 which ,is surrounded bya jacket 15, the latterbeing held in spaced relation to the section and secured thereto by rivets 16. In the form shown in Figs.
'2 and 4, this jacket is slightly longer than thesection 14 and secured within the lower s ec-mamas Letters Patent.

end of the jacket is a ring l 'l' 'f s lidably mounted within-this ring is a pipesection '18 provided omits-upperfend Wltll an exterior ring 19, the outer .surface of which 1s spaced from the inner surface of thesection 14. 20 is an upper pipe section, which is provided around itslower end with a bead21 bearing against the-inner surface ofdthesection 14, so that} these sections 14 and 20 are held frictionally inad-justedposition. The section 14 may have its upperi edge bent inward, as at 22, so as toj rhold thesection 20 from en tire withdrawahif desired. From inspection ofFig; 4 it will be seen tl1at,;when the pipe iscollapsed, the section 20 moi-testbetween the ring 19 and; the section 14.-At
v the upper endof the section20is a bracing 1 ring 23-a:nd extending diametrlcally across this bracingringis a handle rod 24. f
Atthe lower end of thesection 18 there is provided an interior stop and brace rin 25.
an, arranged for engagement by an exteriorstop and brace ring'26 formed on the lower sec- {3101127 Naturally, additional sections like j 27 may be used.
In the bottom edge of the jacket 1,5, there j are provided oppositely disposed notches28, 3 andabove each of these recesses'is an eye' 29 whe'reto is connected a chain 30 carrying on its end a snap hook 31, adaptedto, engage suitable eye on the bar 13; or be hooked onto links on the tent pole, when the pipe is extended Moreover, when the? sections are collapsed, thesetwo chains may be connected, thechains passing ,across the bottom of thezsection 14,soas'to., hold the collapsed plpe in that condition; i
The form shown in Figs.g5 and (Sis-similar to that shown in Figs. 2and 4but, the lower section 27 is: reduced at itsj'upper end or providedwith a shoulder 33, on whichthe' ring 25 of the section 18, is supported, and section 14 has internalbrackets 32, by which it, in turn, is supported on section 18. If
desired the shoulder 33 may be omitted and 1 section 18 be also "provided with supporting brackets 32, or'bothmay be used, as shown in Fig. 5, and the top section may also have brackets 32 or be heldb'y the friction of the head 21, so that the pipeis supported from the bottom, like an! ordinary stove-pipe. In
this form, the sections must, of course, be
taken apart by drawing them out of each other downwardly and are then nested by placing them inreach other from the top.
he chains 30 in this case, merely serve to p V steady the pipe when extended out and to hold the sections together when collapsed.
Minor changes may of course be made from the exact formillustrated without de- I parting from the essential features ofthe invention, as expressed in the following claims 1. A collapsible stove-pipe for usein: tents and the like, comprising a plurality of telescoping sections, one of which is provided with a double wall forming a heat-insulatin'g'jacket, saidsection being'pro-vided with means to secure it to the tent-pole or other insulating jacket, said section being provided with means -to secure ittothe tentv pole" or other member adjacent the roof of the structure throughwhich the pipe passes, said means also serving to hold'the sectlons together in collapsed condition.
3. AJ-collapsible' stove-pipe for use in g p section being provided w1t'h:means to hold tents and the like, comprising a plurality of telescoping sections, one of which is provided with a do-uble wal l forming a heatinsulating jacket, said section being pro vided with means to secure it to the tentpole or other member adjacent the roof of P i, the structure through which the pipe passes,
and each section having means to support it on the next adjacent section when the p1pe is extended.
" 4; A collapsible stove-pipe for use in tents and the like, comprising plurality of i telescoping sections, one, of which is providedwith' a doublewall forming. a heatinsulating jacket, said section being provided with means to secure it to the-tent-pole or other member adjacent theroof' ofithe structure through whiclrthe pipe passes, the sections below said jacketed sec'tion being provided with means whereby theyiar'e suspended from said section'and, .from "each other, and the section above said jacketed section being provided with means to hold it frictionallyin any positionin' said jacketed section. i
A collapsible istove pipe'for use in tents and the like, comprising a plurality of r telescoping sections, one fof'which is provided with a double wall forming a heat-, insulating jacket, said section being provided with means to secure it to the tentpole orotherjmember adjacent the roof of the-structure through which the pipe passes, the sections below said jacketed section being other, and the section above said-jacketed it'frictionally in any position in said jacket- I 60 provided with means whereby theyare'suspended from said section. and from". each ed section, andalso with a crossbarat its top whereby the sections cambe pulled'apa-rt.
Intestimony' whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presenceof two subscribing witnesses. a i
