MINNIE G. WILBURN, 01? CBIIEPLE CREEK, COLORADQ ASSIGNOROF ONE-HALF TO PETER H. HANSEN, OF GRIPPLE CREEK, COLORADO.
' :Bnusn.
Patented septlia, 1914.
Application filed. March 9, 1914. Serial No. 823,633.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MINNIE'O. WILBUnN,
Cripple Creek, in the county of Teller and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brushes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to brush and mop holders and is an improvement over my prior Patent No. 684,155, patented Oct. 8, 1901.
An object of this invention is to generally improve the construction of my former patent, and particularly to provide improved means for securing the brush in the head.
My invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device. Fig. 2 is a front elevation showing the brush removed. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the brush head holder. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the wiper and attaching plate therefor. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary section of one of the jaws showing the manner of attaching the wiper thereto.
Referring more particularly to the draw ing, the numerals 5 and 6 designate a pair of jaws, and jaw 5 being provided with an inwardly extending sleeve 7. The sleeve is provided at its forward end with a pair of laterally extending apertured ears 8, in which the rearwardly extending arm 9 of the jaw 6 is pivotally mounted upon the pin 10. The forward ends of the jaws 5 and 6 are provided with inwardly extending teeth 11, and the inner face of the arm 9 of the jaw 6 is curved or cam-shaped as at 12 The sleeve 7 is interiorly threaded to receive a forwardly extending threaded spindle 18 which is mounted in the handle 14, the forward extremity of the spindle 18 being adapted to bear against the cam-shaped face of the arm 9 to move the jaw 6 toward the jaw 5. The handle 14 is also providedwith a forwardly extending collar 15 which surrounds the spindle 13 for a portion of its length, the collar being adapted to engage about the inner'end of the sleeve 7 when the handle is connected thereto, to entirely inolose the spindle 13.
Connected to the outer face of the jaw 5 is a transversely extending plate 16 which is U-shaped incross-section, the arms of the plate being provided with registering openings 17, and disposed between the arms of the plate is a rubber strip or wiper 18 which is secured to the plate by pins 19 which pass through the registering openings in the arms of the plate. A brush 20 is provided, the back or head thereof being provided on its forward face adjacent one longitudinal edge thereof with a groove 22, the back face of the, brush head having secured thereto a strip or bead 23 which also extends longitudinally thereof adjacent one of its edges. In assembling my improved device, the threaded spindle 13 of the handle 14 is threaded into the sleeve 7 for a portion of its length whereupon the brush is arranged so that the jaw 5 engages in the groove 22, on the front of the brush head, and the jaw 6 engages the inner edge of the strip 23 on the rear face of the brush, whereupon the handle 14: is rotated so that the extremity of the spindle 13 engages the cam-shaped surface 12 of the arm 9 to lock the jaws against the brush and thereby hold the same 7 in position. When it is desired to remove the brush from the jaws, it is merely necessary may be connected to the handle by the jaws 5 and 6 and after the windows have been washed with the wet sponge, the window maybe wiped with the wiper 23 supported on the aw 5.
Having thus fully described my invention, ceive the clamping elements of a brush 10 What I claim as new and desire to secure by holder. Letters Pat t is; V a I testimony'whereof l hereunto" aflix my A brush including ahead having bristles signature in the presence, of two Witnesses.
