Application filed August at, 1915. Serial No. 43,5258.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HENRY T. FMMoNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Haverhill, county of Essex, State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Seamless Felt Forms for Felt Boots, Shoes, and Slippers, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to an improvement in a seamless felt form for a felt boot, shoe, slipper or moccasin.
One object of the invention is to provide such a form with a felted or seamless spring cushion heel.
Another object is to provide the form with a felted or spring cushion sole.
Another object is to provide the form with a seamless end.
The form may be itself finished to form a seamless boot, shoe, slipper or moccasin, or it may be used as a form on which a sole or heel of leather or other material may be attached to stillfurther buildup the heel or sole or both.
The invention will be fully understood from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the novel features thereof will be pointed out and clearly defined in the claims at the close of the specification.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a side elevation of a form embodying the invention, showing the spring heel and spring sole. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the form shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross section on line 33 of Fig. 1 with the pad omitted. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the form shown in Fig. 1 before the cufi is folded over. Fig. 5 is a horizontal section on line 5-5 of Fig. l, with the cushions removed. Fig. 6 is a side elevation of a form such as shown in Fig. 1 except that the spring sole is omitted. Fig. 7 is a perspective view of a form for an opera boot embodying the invention. Fig. 8 is a side elevation of a shoe made out of a form such as shown in Fig. l. and having an additional heel and sole of leather or other suitable material.
Referring now to the drawings, the form is first made in the shape shown in Fig. 4. out of a web of wool,'noils, shoddy, wool waste or other short fibered material, building it up and felting it, and shaping it on a last. it is shaped on the last in such manner Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Au. 29, 11916.
that there is formed a recess or pocket 1 in the heel portion, the form having a drawn in lip or flange 2 just at the top of said pocket, thus forming a groove 3 around the side of the pocket. The form when completed and shaped is integral and seamless. The pocket having the inturned lip in the heel and in the sole makes a spring heel and sole. Preferably the depression or pocket 1 receives a pad 4 of felt or other suitable ma terial to fill the pocket and serve as a cushion for the heel of the wearer. The pad being flexible can be flexed enough to enter the groove 3 and the flange 2 will retain it in place. The pad however is not essential, as the pocket with the flange or lip will form a sort ofpneumatic spring seat. The fore part also preferably has a depressed bottom portion forming a pocket 5 in which is placed a pad 7 which serves as a cushion, the form having a drawn in lip 6 which holds the pad 7 in place.
The form is preferably made with a flap portion 8 extending above the ankle, as shown in Fig. 4, integral with the upper,
and is then folded over to form a cufi, as
shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3.
In the modification shown in Fig. 6 the pocket in the sole is omitted.
In the modification shown in Fig. 7, the invention is embodied in an opera boot, having a high upper 11 formed with a. slit 12 down the front.
In the modification shown in Fig. 8 there is a leather heel 9 and a leather outer sole 10 attached respectively to the spring heel and sole.
What I claim is- 1. A seamless felt form for a felt boot, shoe, slipper or moccasin having aheel integral therewith, said heel having a pocket to receive a cushion and an inturned lip around the upper part of said pocket, said lip forming a retainer to hold the cushion in the pocket.
2. A seamless felt form for a felt boot, shoe, slipper or moccasin, having a. felted heel and a felted sole integral therewith, the heel and sole each being formed with a pocket to receive a cushion and each pocket having an inturned lip which serves as a retainer to hold the cushion within the pocket.
3. A seamless felt form for a, felt boot,
shoe, slipper or moccasin having a felted heel and a felted sole integral therewith, the heel and sole each being formed with a pocket to receive a cushion and having an inturned lip at the top of the pocket which serves as a retainer for a cushion within the pocket, and an additional heel and sole of other material secured. to the'bottom of the felt heel and sole.
4. A seamless felt form for a'k felt boot, shoe, slipper, or moccasin having a felted heel integral therewith, the heel being formed with a pocket to receive a cushion and having an inturned lip at the top of the pocket which serves as a retainer for a cushion Within the pocket, and an additional heel of other material secured to the bottom of the felt heel. I
