THE COLUMBIA PLANOURAPH C0" WASHINGTON, D- C- rrn STAES ATE T oric.
are R re im r 1 M i-Ieer MIC ilQ lS SANITARY GOV-ER FOR RECEPTAGLES.
To all whom. i may concern:
Be it known. that I Lno F. PEBRIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Port Huron, in the county of St. Clair and State Of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Covers for Receptacles; and I do hereby declare-the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichjit appertains to make and use, the same. 7
This invention relates to sanitary covers for. receptacles.
It is an object and purpose of the invention to provide a cover adapted to be at; tached to tubs, pails, barrels or the like. and especially to ice-cream receptacles. and tubs containing butter. I
A further object of theinVGIl'fiiQll is to provide a sanitary cover with means by which it can be secured to any desired receptacle such that when in place, the contents of the receptacle ispractically sealed against removal by one not authorized, whereby said contents cannot be disturbed before it reaches its destination.
The construction by which these ends are attained, together with others not specifically enumerated is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which;
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a receptacle having my improved cover thereon in closing position. Fig. 2 is a view from the rear of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the cover. Fig. 4 shows a vertical section, somewhat reduced in size, with the cover removed from the receptacle. Fig. 5 is a horizontal section taken through the front of the cover and illustrating its method of attachment to the receptacle at this point. Figs. 6 and 7 show in front elevation and section a se curing eye formed in the cover; and Fig. 8
is an elevation of the eyes formed at each Specification of Letters Patent.

cular in outline and has depending sides 3 V which are divided at the front to form two flaps 4 and 5 as shown, the flap 5 overlap-' p ng flap 4. Adjacent the edge of flap 4 an elongated eye 6 is provided in the flap while flap 5 is similarly provided with an elongated eye 7 both eyes .6 and. 7 being of substantially the formationshownin Figs. 5,
6 and '7. At either side of the cover, eyes 8 are also secured near the lower edgesjof s Sid 5,-.
At its rear side substantially opposite the d viding line between flaps 4 and 5, the co er l cut diagona ly an a portion l pp q r he adj ent po t o a h wn at 9. in

The overlapping portions are fas en d to th a at h a t m a loop 10 of metal is secured to thedepending sides of the cover, suitable rivets passing hrou h h 09p a th gh t e e app d porti ns f he S des 30f h co eri? s; eon i ak s th d ame e at he lower edges of sides 3 less than it is where said sides join thetop 2, so. that: when. ap-
' cover is permanently secured to the receptacle.
A receptacle provided with a cover and attached thereto in the manner thus described may be closed readily, the eye 6 of flap 4 being first passed over a device 12 which is permanently secured to the receptacle at a point diametrically opposite the member 10.
Areceptacle cover of this construction When applied serves to render access to the receptacle by persons not authorized practically impossible, and entirely impossible Without notice, from breaking the seals, to those to Whom the receptacle is sent. By means of this construction the closure may be drawn very tightly against the outer side of the receptacle precluding the entrance of any foreign matter to the interior, and after use, if the closure at any time becomes soiled or otherwise rendered unsanitary, it may be readily cleaned before use again.
I claim v 1. A cover for receptacles comprising a top having the formation of the top of the receptacle to be covered, sides depending from the outer edges of the top, said sides at one point being divided andformed with flaps'one overlapping the other, eyes in the flaps adapted to be positioned one over the other, a loop connected to the sides at a point substantially opposite the eyes in the flaps,
and eyes, one at each side between the loop and flaps, positioned in the depending sides of the cover, substantially as described.
2. A cover for receptacles comprising a top having the formation of the top of the receptacle to be covered, sides depending from theouter edges of the top, said sides at one point being divided and formed ith overlapping flaps, elongated eyes formed in the flaps, a metal loop connected to said sides at a point substantially opposite the eyes in the flaps, and additional eyes positioned in the depending sides at either side of the cover between theeyes in the flaps and the loop, substantially as described.
3. In combination, a receptacle, handles on the receptacle, a member having a round ed head secured to the receptacle between the handles, a cover provided With depending sides, a loop attached to the cover and tothe receptacle, overlapping flaps each having an eye therein passing over the said member on the receptacle, eyes in the cover adjacent the handles on the receptacle, means securing the cover to thehandles through the eyes and means to retain the flaps in position over the head of the said member, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I afllx my signature in presence of tWo- Witnesses.
