Description
E. DOBBINS.
MOE HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 9, I915.
1, 174,550. Patented Mar. 7, 1916.
A I m l /////4 Z EDWARD DOBBINS, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
MOP-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD DOBBINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Mop-Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved mop holder, and an object of the invention is to provide a simple, efiicient and practical device of this nature having improved means for clamping the mop to the mop head.
One of the features of the invention is to provide a mop head elongated transversely and having flanges arranged V-shaped, and between which V-shaped flanges and a T- shaped clamp a mop is secured, said T- shaped clamp being connected to a lever for drawing the same tight.
In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations, falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the improved mop holder constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on line 8-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4-is a sectional plan view on line 4-4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the mop detached. Fig. 6 is a detail view of a tool for removing the mop. Fig. 7 is a sectional view on line 77 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the draw ings, 1 designates the wood handle member having a slot 2 at one end, and fitting over this slotted end is a ferrule or tubular member 8, secured in place by the pin 4 (which constitutes a pivot pin). This ferrule or sleeve is formed at one end with a mop head, which is designated as a whole by the numeral or character 6. The head 6 merges in any suitable manner from the ferrule or sleeve, in the form of a plate, as shown in the drawings, and which is bent upon itself transversely as shown at 8 forming two sides 9 and 10. These sides are disposed adjacent one another, but intermediate the ends of the sides, the sides are slightly spaced apart, so as to permit a slight por- Speeification of Letters Patent.

Application filed September 9, 1915. Serial No. 49,800.
tion of the mop 11 to wedge therebetween, whereas the end portion of the adjacent faces of the sides are brought together and soldered or otherwise secured at 12. These sides at their forward portions are bent upwardly and downwardly, thereby forming flanges 13 and 14, which are arranged V- shaped.
A T-shaped clamp 15 is provided, the T- portion 16 thereof consists of a rod, which is engaged by the mop l1, and the ends of this rod 16 terminate in hooks or laterally bent portions 17, which extend rearwardly and designed to engage between the flanges 18 and 14 at their ends, and acting to partially embed into the mop, thereby preventing lateral displacement of the mop. The shank 18 of the T-shaped clamp extends through an opening 19 of the end of the ferrule 3, adjacent where the plate forming the sides of the mop head merges therefrom. The shank 18 also engages the recesses 20 of the opposite side of the head, and by means of these recesses and the opening or aperture 19, the shank 18 is guided in its adjustable movements. Pivoted upon the pin 4 in the slot 2 is a segmental'or curved bar having a thumb piece 22 and provided with ratchet teeth 23. The shank 18 is pivoted at 24 to the bar 21 somewhat adjacent the pivot pin 4, so that by throwing the bar 21 downwardly toward the handle member, the rod 16 of the T-shaped clamping member will be drawn toward and between the flanges 13 and 14, thereby clamping the mop securely in place. When the bar 21 is thrown downwardly toward the handle member 1, as shown in Fig. 1, the teeth thereof are engaged by the arched part 25 of the loop 26, which is pivoted at 27 to the handle member, thereby holding the clamping member in adjusted position.
The mop 11 is constructed from any suitable heavy fabric material, as shown in Fig. 5, and is slitted as shown at 29. In arranging the mop on the clamping member, the shank 18 (which is connected to the rod 16 by an eye 30 soldered or otherwise secured against movement to the rod 16) engages the crotch 31 of the slit 29, the mop being folded, as shown to engage the rod 16, and by drawing the clamping member tight, the mop is secured in position. To detach the mop the loop 26 is disengaged as shown in Fig. 2, the bar 21 is thrown forwardly away from the handle member, thereby causing numeral 32 may be used for lifting the mop.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is l. A mop holder comprising a head having a ferrule provided with a slot, a handle:
in the ferrule being slotted in registration with the first slot, the head comprising a plate merging from the ferrule being bent upon itself to form two sides, the forward portions of which being bent outwardly and laterally in opposite directions, 'aT-shaped clamp, the T-portion clamping a mop between it and the V-shaped disposed flanges, the shank extending into the slot of the handle, and means connected to the shank for drawing the clamp against the mop.
2. A mop holder comprising a head having a ferrule provided with a slot, a handle in the ferrule being slotted in registration with the first slot, the head comprising a plate merging from the ferrule being bent upon itself to form two sides, the forward portions of which being bent outwardly and laterally in opposite directions, a T-shaped clamp, the T-portion clamping a mop between. it and the V-shaped disposed flanges, the shank extending into the slot of the handle, said T-portion having hooks or lateral parts at its ends extending toward the handle to prevent lateral movement of the mop,and means connected to the shank for drawing the clamp against the mop.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
I EDWARD DOBBINS.
