THE coLUMmA PLANOGRAPH co.. WASHINGTON, D. c.
CHARLES A. MATHENY, OF KINGSTON, TENNESSEE.
'i TRUSERS `S'PBJJICHF-R AND CREASEB.
Application filed September 6, 1912.
-To all whom t may concern:
4Be it known that I, CHARLES A. MATHENY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kingston, in the county of Roane, State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers Stretchers land Creasers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in trousers stretchers and pressers.
The object of the invention is to provide a novel and compact device of the class described, which will quickly and efficiently crease a pair of trousers and stretch them to remove bagginess.
Another object lies in the provision of such a device which will be very light and simple of structure and thus permit of economical manufacture.
A still further object is to provide a device which can be folded and packed away in a small space when not in use.
With these and other objects and advantages in view, the invention resides in the novel combination, and arrangements of parts which shall be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings; where similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention applied, Fig. 2 is a similar view of the other side, Fig. 3 is an edge view of what is shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 4E is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1, Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the locking clips.
Referring to the drawings, there is .shown a pair of trousers A, with this invention attached thereto, which comprises the pressing members B and C. Each pressing member is formed of a pair of bars D and E each medially hinged as at 6, forming the upper and lower portions 7 and 8. To clamp the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented rei. s, iaie.
Serial No. 718,984.
trousers between the bars D and E a plurality of clamping clips are provided and are attached to the bar D of the portion 7 and the bar E of the portion 8. It is thus seen that the clips are positioned on the bars in such manner that they do not interfere with the folding of said bars. Each of the clamping clips comprises a body member 9, U- shaped in cross section and provided with an attaching finger 10 extending therefrom and secured to a bar as at 11. To facilitate forcing the clamping clip over the bar other than to which it is attached one corner of the body 9 is beveled as at 11.
To provide means for stretching the trousers, the pressing member C has pivotally se-r cured to the outer extremity of the portion 7 of the bar D a stretching bar 12, having formed on its upper face a plurality of ratchet teeth 13. The outer extremity of the portion S of the bar E of member B is provided with a similar bar 14, having the teeth 15. To coact with the toothed bars the pressing member B has provided on the outer extremity of the portion 7 of the bar D an upstruck lug 16, while the outer eXtremity of the portion 8 of the bar E hat a similar lug 17. It is thus seen that by means of the toothed bar 12 and lug 1G and toothed bar 14 and lug 17 the pressing members are held apart against the resilient action of the trousers fabric thus effectively stretching the trousers and removing the unsightly bagginess and wrinkles. The drawings show that the pressing member B is straight while the member C is curved to correspond with the curve of the back of the trousers. It is seen that this causes all of the cloth to be stretched evenly.
What is claimed is:
A trousers stretching and creasing device comprising a pair of creasing members, each consisting of clamping bars, a plurality of clips comprising bodies, said bodies having fingers which are pivotally connected to one of the bars, a lug carried by one end of each bar, spacing bars having one of their ends pivotally connected to one bar of the creasing members, and their other ends provided with teeth for selectively engaging an adjacent lug, certain of the clips being adapted In testimony whereof, I afiX my signato have their fingers engage the spacing bars ture, in presence of two Witnesses.
When the backs of the clip bodies are engaged With the edges of the bars of the CHARIES1-A MATHENY creasing members, thereby holdingthe teeth Titnessesz of the spacing bars in engagement with the H. C. BRECK, :tssoolated lugs. C. R; ASHLEY,` Jr.
