To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES O'r'ro SCHNEIDER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing in WVimbledon, London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in TrousersStretchers, of which the foilmving is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved trousers stretcher and it relates to devices of the kind comprising two clamp members for engaging the ends of the garment which are held apart to effect the stretching open ation by means of a rigid jointed member.

The present invention has for its object to provide an efficient device for the purpose specified which, while being cheap, shall be both light in weight and capable when not in use of being reduced to a much smaller compass than devices of the type as usually constructed, thereby permitting it to be readily packed for transport. A device according to the present invention moreover is of such small bulk that even when in use with the garment therein, it may be readily packed for transport.

A device according to this invention comprises a pair of metal clamps one for engaging the upper end of the garment, and the other, which is shorter, for engaging the lower end of the said garment. The clamps comprise strips of thin metal corrugated, ribbed or embossed to add to the rigidity thereof, and the strips are pivotally connected at one end by means of a resilient member formed of thin sheet metal which is at one end attached to one of the members of the clamp, and at the other pivotally connected to the other member of said clamp. The opposite ends of the members of the clamp are provided respectively with a second resilient member and a clip or fastening engaging the end of said. resilient member. The clamps are held apart to effect the stretching operation by means of a rod formed in two parts and connected by means of a sleeve and ball and socket joint. The outer ends of the rod are slotted and a projection is formed upon one of the members of each clip which is engaged by the slotted ends of the jointed rod.

The strips form clamps of which one is provided for the upper end of the garment and another of somewhat less length for the lower end of said garment. One or both of the inner faces of the strips a a is or are provided with a fabric or other suitable cover 0 designed to prevent any damage to the garment and at the same time increase the holding power of the clamp by preventing the slipping of the garment between the members of the clamp. To facilitate the manipulation 'of the clips I prefer to provide it with an extension or finger piece f By employing the resilient members at each end of the clamp it is possible to secure an even pressure throughout the length of the clamps and at the same time the clamp will automatically adjust itself to different thicknesses of material at the same time exerting an even pressure as aforesaid.

Formed upon one of the members of the clamp are projections which are conveniently formed by indenting the metal from the inside of the member so that there is formed, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, a projection g. The projections g are formed on each clamp and are designed to be engaged by the slotted ends of the rod h by means of which the clamps are held apart to effect the stretching operation as shown in Fig. 1. The rod h is formed in two parts connected in any suitable manner, in the present instance by means of the ball and socket joint indicated generally by i Fig. 1, a sleeve 2' serving to hold the parts of the rod in alinement.

Claims:

A trousers stretcher comprising a member for engaging one end of the trousers, a member for engaging the other end of said trousers, said members being each formed in two parts of thin sheet material, a resilient member connected to one of said parts and pivotally connected to the other part, a second resilient member attached to the opposite end of one of the parts, and a clip upon the end of the other part engaging the end of said resilient member, a rod formed in two parts, a ball upon the inner end of one 'part of the rod, a socket upon the inner end CHARLES oTTo SCHNEIDER.
