Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 25, 1916 Application field May 15, 1915. Serial N0.,28,438.
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. NUDING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brownsboro, in the county of Jackson and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Combination Garment Hanger and Creaser; andI do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to. which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a combination garment hanger or supporter and creaser, and it has for. its object to provide an improved device of this design, more especially adapted as a hanger and creaser for trousers.
Another object of the invention is to prozide a collapsible combination garment hanger and creaser.
A further object isthe provision of two pairs of strips for clamping the edges of a pair of trousers, in order to consequently form a crease in the front and rear, there being a-plurality' of U-shaped clamps for clamping the strips in position.
Another feature of the invention is the provision of sectional strips hingedly connected, so that the strips may be collapsed. A further feature of the construction is is the provision of means for holding the .strips of each pair in registration.
In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations, falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
,In the drawings:Figur 1 isa-view in elevation, showing a pair of trousers folded suitably for creasing and being inverted, and illustrating the clamping strips as applied to the edges, and a suitable hanger engaging hooks of the upper ends of two of the strips, whereby the trousers may be suspended, on a hook in the wall, or in a cupboard or wardrobe or the like. Fig. 2 illustrates collective views ofthe two pairs of clamping strips. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the combined hanger and clamp for the lower portions of the trousers. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the lower portion of one pair of the strips, showing how a spreader member is attached for holding the lower portion of the pairs of strips separated, to hold the .trousers stretched, a little beyond the seat thereof.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates one pairof strips, and 2 another pair. Each strip of each pair consists of two sections 3 and 4 hinged together as at 5. The edge portion adjacent the upper end of the section 4 of one of the strips of one pa r is. provided with a staple 6, which being driven into the section forms an elongated eye 7. The edge of the lower portion of the lower section 3 of each strip has a staple 6 driven into the section in a manner similar tothe'staple 6 to form an elongated eye 7*.
The upper portion of the section 4, and the lower portion of the section 3of each strip which cooperates opposite the strip having the elongated eyes 7 and 7 are provided with upper and lower straps 9. Each strap 9 has a bent end 10 overlying one edge of the section to which the strap 9 is secured and is secured as shown to said edge. The upper straps are provided with tongues 8 at their opposite ends to pass through the elongated eyes 7, to hold the upper sections of the cooperating strips in registration. The lower straps 9 have tongues 8 opposite the bent ends 10 of the lower straps, to pass through the elongated eyes 7 to hold the lower sections of the cooperating strips in registration.
The extreme upper end of one of the sections 4 of one of the strips of each pair of strips has a U-shaped member 11 secured at 12 to the opposite edges .of said sections. This U-shaped member has an extension 13 terminating in a hook 14, the purpose of which will appear presently. However, the extension 13 is bentat 15, so that the extension will protrude in a plane substantially alined with the inner face of the section 4 'to which the U-shaped member is secured.
1. A spreader strip 2 is provided having one edge thereof adjacent both ends of the strip provided with teeth 23. The spreader 22 is so employed, that one of the teeth adj acent each end of the spreader engages an eye or staple 23 of one of the strips of each pair of strips, so as to hold the trousers stretched as shown in Fig. l. A combination hanger and clamp 25 is provided. This combination hanger and clamp comprises the oppositely bowed spring blades 26, whichare designed to clamp upon opposite sides of the lower ends of the trousers, thereby holding the trousers inverted and clamped together at their bottoms. These springblades 26 also engage the hooks 14. The hanger portion consists of a metallic spring strip curved upon itself to form the eye 27 and beyond the eye, the strip forms two spring arms 28, which are riveted at 29 to the spring blades 26. These spring arms, as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 3 extend at angles to the blades 26, so that the blades 26 conform to the cut of the bottoms of the trousers. A loop 30 is mounted upon the spring arms 28, and by sliding this loop downwardly upon the arms drawing them together, the spring blades 26 will clamp tightly against the trousers. A suitable eye 31 is swiveled at 32 to the eye 27, and to the eye 31 a hook 33 is connected, whereby the combination hanger and clamp 25 together with the creasing strips and the trousers may be suspended from a projection on the wall, or from any suitable means in a cupboard or wardrobe.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is In combination, two pair of creasing strips, one strip of each pair having upper and lower guide eyes, the other strip of each pair having laterally extending tongues engaging theguide eyes to hold the strips of each pair in registration, one of the strips of each pair upon one face adjacent its lower. end having an additional eye, a spreader having teeth upon one of its edges adjacent both' ends to engage said additional eyes to hold both pair of strips separated and the trousers stretched, the upper end of one strip of each pair having an upwardly extending hook, and a combination hanger and clamp device engaging said hooks for suspending the creasing strips and the trousers, said hanger and clamp device comprising spring arms having transverse clamping members at their lower ends to engage opposite faces of the lower end of the trousers and engage said hooks, and a loop on said spring arms to draw the clamps tight against the trousers.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM H. NUDING.
