To all whom it may-concern:

Be it known that LJAMEs NEIL, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at New I ,York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Guard for Dental Instruments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use-the same.

'This invention relates to a new and useful stone guard or shield for dental grinding tools. a

. The invention in its broadest scope aims to provide as its primary object an-improved guard of this design, for protecting the tongue and the surroundmg" tissues of onels mouth against injury.-

A further ob ect of the invention isto providethe guard with a recess or depression for the reception'of a wad of moist cotton or the. like for obviating the possibility of the grinding 'stone becoming hot, and also to improve the cutting and grinding of the stone.

The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth,-sho wn in the drawings, and claimed;

Furthermore, it willbe observed that this guard-not only provides the above features but also includes novel means for moistening the grinding tool or" stone.

' The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is:

'1. In combination, a grinding stone, a guard therefor comprising a disk like member having a circumferential annular flange and provided with a segmental'cntaway por-v 'tion, the disk like member having a recess provided with overhanging walls, adapted to contain a wad of moist fiber for moistening the grinding stone, thus preventing the same from becoming too hot, the overhanging walls constituting means to prevent accidental displacement of the moist wad of fiber.
