Description

W. H. LEE.
POGKET BOOK.
APPLICATION PILED JUNE 9, 1911.
1,01?,006., Patented Feb. 13,1912.
@NETED @TATES PATENT GFFTQE,
WILLIAM H. LEE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
POCKET-BOOK.
Application filed June 9, 1911.
T0 all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, XVILLIAM H. LEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Books, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to pocket books, such as diaries and memorandum books, and the object of the invention is to provide a book of this character with improved pockets or devices for holding tickets, postage stamps and the like.
To this end the invention consists of the improved construction of the pockets or holding devices and of the means employed for securing them to the cover of the book.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pocket book with the back part of the cover thrown open to show the ticket and stamp pockets. Fig. 2 is a section through the stamp pockets and the heavv backing sheet therefor, the section being taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section through the ticket pocket and backing sheet, the section oeing taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1.
weferring in detail to the construction and arrangement of parts, 1 designates the cover of the book; 2 a sheet of cardboard, or the like, which is pasted or otherwise suitably secured to the inner face of the back part of the book cover.
3, 3, are pockets, made preferably of waXed paper and designed to carry postage Stamps. These stamp pockets are preferably closed at their lower edges, as indicated at 3 and the two pockets can conveniently be formed by twice folding a single sheet of paper with the folds at right angles to each other. The pockets thus formed are secured to the backing sheet 2 by staples ls- 4 or other suitable means. The stamp pockets are disposed at one end of the backing sheet, preferably so as to bring them at the upper end of the book, and to the other end of the backing sheet is secured the pocket 5, adapted to receive car- Specification of Letters Patent.

tickets, or the like. The pocket 5 is preferably made of cloth and the cloth can have a glazed or hard finished surface. The cloth has its side and bottom edges folded over the edges of the backing sheet and pasted to the back thereof, as shown in Fig. 3. The ticket pocket as thus formed is open at its upper end to receive the tickets. In order that the latter may be readily withdrawn from the pocket, the cloth side thereof is formed with a slit 6, and the user by running his thumb along this slit can readily draw one or more tickets from the pocket.
In making pocket books in accordance wit-h my invention, the stamp and ticket pockets are first secured in the manner described to the backing sheet 2, and the latter is then pasted to the inner side of the book cover. I thus produce a book with the usual smooth finish, none of the fastening devices, such as the staples 4, being secured directly to the cover of the book. Furthermore, the pockets of the book can be more effectively and more easily attached by being secured to the separate backing sheet 2 than they could be if they were secured directly to the cover of the book.
What I claim is:
1. The combination with a book, or the like, of a pluralitv of pockets for tickets or Stamps, and a common backing sheet to which said pockets are secured, the backing sheet being secured to the inner face of one of the book covers.
2. In a pocket book, the combination of a cover, a sheetof cardboard, or the like, a pocket formed of waXed paper secured to one end of said sheet and a pocket designed to hold tickets or the like secured to the other end of said sheet, the sheet of cardboard being pasted to the inner face of the book cover.
3. The combination with a book, of a stamp pocket made of waXed paper or' the like, open at its top edge and one of its side edges and closed at its bottom edge, and a backing sheet to which the said pocket is secured, the backing sheet being attached to the inner face of the book cover.
4. The combination with a book, of a ticket pocket comprising a backing sheet In testimony Whereof I ax my signature, and a piece of cloth having three of its in presence of two witnesses. edges folded over the edges of the backing sheet and formed With a slit extending WILLIAM H. LEE. transversely to the open side of the pocket, VVitnesses: said backing sheet being pasted to the inner GEORGE C. COOK,
face of the book cover. GEORGE W. EDWARDS.
