APPARATUS FOR DISTRIBUTING FLAT BODIES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 6, 1912.
Application filed September 29, 1910. Serial No. 584,536.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH RUPPEL, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at Strassburg, in Alsace-Lorraine, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Distributing Flat Bodies, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an apparatus for distributing flat bodies such as single sheets of paper or the like.
A means for distributing single articles is often necessary as for instance in the case of hotel writing paper when it is desired to not only keep the article clean, but also to prevent unnecessary waste and to enable a single piece to be obtained at any time. According to my invention the single articles are protected from dust and from being crumpled up.
The apparatus of my invention consists essentially of a small box in which the flat bodies are packed tight, so that by pressing a handle, a body may be lifted out of the box opening, so that it can be easily extracted by hand. The flat bodies are pressed by means of a pivoted plate against a spring controlled member covered with a soft substance which enables it to draw the sheets after it, so that by moving this member the article lying next to it is removed from the pile and guided through the opening.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is an elevation of the receptacle in the opened position, Fig. 2 is a side view of the apparatus with the parts at rest, Fig. 8 is a side view of the apparatus with the parts in action.
The flat bodies a such as sheets of writing paper lie in a small box 7), which is inclosed in a box 0 provided with mechanism for the extraction of the sheets. The side (Z of the box 6 opposite to the mechanism, is provided with an opening 6 and the side f of the box I) lying opposite to it is pivoted about axis 9 so that the fiat bodies lying bet-ween the sides d and f are continually pressed by means of a spring 71. against the front side. A slot 2' preferably is provided over the small box I), through which the flat bodies are pushed. The lid is of the receptacle carries the lifting mechanism. This consists of a lever Z at one end of which the spring m is attached, the other end being connected to a pivotally mounted arm which transmits the movement of the lever to a bow spring a which can move between guides 72 on a slide 0. This bow spring carries at its free end the engaging member which consists of a roller g covered with rubber or like yielding substance. The ratchet wheel .9 and the spring r allow the roller to rotate in onedirection only. A handle Z extends to the outside of the receptacle, so that the whole mechanism together with the flat bodies are firmly inclosed and only one article can be lifted out at a time by moving the handle. When the handle is pressed down the spring controlled engaging member is lifted and as the roller is unable to rotate when the lever moves in this direction it engages a flat body and thrusts it upward. The spring at draws the lever back, and as the roller can now rotate the paper cannot be damaged or crumbled.
Having thus described my invention in what manner the same is to be performed I declare what I claim is:
1. In an apparatus for ejecting flat bodies comprising in combination with an outer receptacle having an ejecting opening, of a container for said bodies having a delivery end adjacent said ejecting opening,, said container having a hinged bottom and means for normally raising the delivery end of said bottom, reciprocating ejecting means for said receptacle having a spring held rotating element for engagement with the uppermost of said bodies, and a device for preventing rotation of said element on the ejecting stroke and permitting rotation on the return stroke, substantially as described.
2. In an apparatus of the class described, the combination with an outer receptacle having an ejecting opening, of a container for flat bodies having a delivery end disposed adjacent to said opening, and ejecting mechanism for said receptacle comprising guides mounted on said receptacle, a U- shaped spring having one leg slidably mounted in said guide and a roller on the other leg thereof engaging the upper motion of said bodies, means for reciprocating said Spring, and a device for preventing rotation 5 of said roller on the ejecting stroke, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my Copies of this patent may be obtained for FRIEDRICH RUIIEL.
IVitnesses HEINRICH I'IOFFMANN, AUGUST OOSTERMAN.
