DOOR-STOP.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that we, JOHN L. WEBB and GEORGE 1V. VVISEMAN, residing at Sawtelle, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Door-Stop, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to stops which are attached to doors for the purpose of restrainingthem in the open position or partly open positlon.
The principal object of our invention is to provide a device of this character which will be simple to construct and which will main tain an even pressure upon the fioor even where the floor has considerable irregularities thereon.
Other objects and advantages will appear hereinafter.
Referring to the drawings, which are for illustrative purposes only: Figure 1 is a por tion of a door and a casing therefor, the door having our invention applied thereon. Fig. 2 is a side elevation partly in section of our invention as applied to a. door, taken on line x m on Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is aperspective view of our invention shown detached from the door. Fig. 4 is a detail showing the method of fastening some of the parts.
In the form of our invention illustrated in these drawings 10 is a slide formed of sheet metal and consisting of walls 11 and 12 and a back 13. The lower end of the walls 11 and 12 contain a soft rubber block 14, which is held in place by a clamping plate 15, this clamping plate being fastened into the walls 11 and 12 by small riveted portions 16 which extend therethrough and are suitably expanded at the outer edge. On the opposite end from the rubber block 14 the walls 11 and 12 are crimped in as shown at 17. The slide 10 is carried in the cover 18 which is formed of walls 19 and 20 and a back 21 and a top 22. The walls 19 and 20 are bent outwardly to form ears 23 and 24 and criinped inwardly at 25 and 26 to form lugs to guide and restrain the walls 11 and 12 of the slide 10. The ears 23 and 24 are provided with holes 27 through which screws 28 may be driven for the purpose of fastening the door stop to the door. The clamping plate 15'is provided with a top 29 which has a slot 30 therein A rod 31 having a slot 32 therein slips into and engages the top 29 of the clamping plate 15, This Specification of Letters Patent.

rod extends upwardly through the top 22 of the cover 18 and a spring 33 is placed around the rod 31 engaging, the top 29 and the top 22 and tending to force the top 29 downwardly when the cover 18 is secured to the door. The ends 17 are crimped outwardly a sufiicient distance to prevent them passing by the lugs 25 thus limiting the downward movement of the rod 31 under the influence of the spring 33. The rod 31 extends upwardly through a bracket 34 which is fastened to the door and to which is loosely attached a clutch 35, the hole in this clutch 35 being slightly larger than the rod 31. The clutch 35 passes over the bracket 34 being provided with an intersecting portion 36 for this purpose. The upper end of the rod 31 is provided with an eye 37.
The method of operation of our invention is as follows: The cover 18 is fastened to a door 38 by means of the screws 28 in such a position that the rubber block 14 may be raised sufficiently high to clear the floor 39. The bracket 34 is also fastened to the door. The spring 33 tends to force the rubber block downwardly, but this action is resisted by the clutch 35 which is tilted by the projections 36 extending over the bracket 34 in the position shown in Fig. 2. In this position the rod 31 is firmly gripped and restrained as shown in Fig. 2. The door is.

When it is desired to change the position of the door, a finger is slipped through the eye 37 and the rod 31 is pulled upward. When it is moved upward a certain distance and is released the clutch 35 is dropped and again restrains the rod holding the rubber block 14 away from the floor.
To claim as our invention:
A door stop adapted to secure the door in any position comprising a cover of rectangular cross-section provided with ears for fastening to the door and the crimped portions extending upwardly in the body thereof, a slide of approximately rectangular cross-section fitting tightly into and movablein said cover, bent portions 011 said slide adapted to engage with the criinped portions on said cover to prevent said slide from passing entirely out of said cover, a friction block at the lower end of said slide, a rod attached to said slide extending upwardly through said cover, a spring surrounding said rod and adapted to press said friction block against the floor, a bracket adapted to be fastened to the door and to surround and guide said rod and a clutch cooperating With said bracket to restrain said rod in the compressed position of said spring.
