WINDOW-LOCKING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 13, 1913.
Application filed July 15, 1912. Serial No. 709,476.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK B. RULLMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hiawatha, in the county of Brown and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVindow-Locking Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact clescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in apparatus for holding window sash open and closed and comprises a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction and combination and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the application of the sash holding device to the sash of a window. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View showing an edge view of one of the sash with the keeper attached thereto, and Fig. 3 is a perspective View showing the keeper and the retaining device.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the frame of the window, B the lower sash and C the upper sash. Secured to the face of the upper sash is a plate D forming a keeper which has a portion intermediate its fixed end outwardly bowed and provided with a transverse slot E. F astened to the inner face of the lower sash is a plate F which extends above the up or surface of the sash and has its ends sp it, forming two angled resilient fingers, designated respectively by letters H and K, the former of which is adapted to contact with the bowed portion of the plate D when the window to which the plate F is secured is raised a sufficient distance, or the upper sash lowered, the plate F springing away from the plate or keeper D and, when the end H comes opposite the slot E therein, it is adapted to spring into said slot and serve as a means to prevent a further movement of the sash to which the plate is attached in one direction. Said keeperD may be fastened to the upper sash at any suitable location and it will be noted that, when the angled finger H engages the slot therein, it will prevent a further raising of the sash B. The finger K serves as a handle, affording means whereby the plate F may be sprung so that the end H will disengage the slot to allow the upper sash to be lowered.
It will be understood that the keeper may be placed anywhere upon one sash, while the plate with angled fingers may be secured to the other sash, thus affording means for locking the sash closed or raised at any desired distance. i
What I claim to be new is A window fastener comprising a bowed socket plate wit-h a transverse slot therein and adapted to be fastened to the face of a sash, a resilient strip fastened to the inner face of an adjacent sash and having its outer face flush with the face of the sash to which it is secured, said plate being bent at a slight angle opposite the top of the sash to which it is fastened and its free end bifurcated, each wing being bent at an angle at a location midway its length, the two bent portions of the wings being at right angles to each other, one adapted to engage the slot of the keeper and the other serving as a handle, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK BENJAMIN RULLMAN.
