Description

L. N. KNUDSON.
I ATTACHMENT FOR TERRET RINGS.
APPLICATION FILED APRJB, 1913.
Patented May 26,191L
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS N. KNUDSON', OF SOMERS, IOWA.
\ ATTACHMENT FOR FERRET-RINGS.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Lnwis N. KNUDsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Somers, in the county of Calhoun, State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Terret- Rings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to attachments for terret rings.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of an attachment for terret rings which will serve to hold the lines compactly and obviate the necessity of drawing the lines through the terret ring and tying same in a knot during the operation of unhitching.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of c0nstruction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views and in which- Figure l is a front view of a terret ring having the attachment associated there with; Fig. 2, is a plan view of what is shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a section on the line 33 of Fig. 2 with the parts of the attachment in the position they would occupy when securing the lines, and Fig. 4, a detail perspective view of the attachment removed from the terret ring.
Referring to the drawings A. indicates a terret ring of the usual and well known construction.
The attachment is shown as U-shaped frame B including outer and inner arms 10 and 11 respectively and a bight portion 12. Projecting laterally from the arm 11 of the frame B are clamp elements 13 and 14 through the instrumentality of which the attachment is secured to the terret ring A. The arm 10 of the frame B is Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 18, 1913.
comprising a Patented May 26, 1914. Serial No. 762,103.
provided with a longitudinal slot 15 and suitably pivoted to the arm 10 for movement in the plane of said slot is a lever 16 one end of which is bent at an angle as at 17 and directed toward the arm 11. Pivotally mounted on the inner side of the bight portion 12 between the arms 10 and 11 for movement in the same plane as the lever 16 is a lever 18 and interposed between the lever 18 and the arm 11 is av leaf spring 19 one end of which is anchored to the arm 11 while the other end engages the lever 18 adjacent the pivot of the latter.
In the use of the attachment the lever 16 is moved to the position shown in Fig. 1 and the line folded and inserted between the lever 18 and the spring 19. The lever 16 is then moved to the position shown in Fig. 3. During the movement of the lever 16 from the position shown in Fig. 1 to the position shown in Fig. 3 the free end of the angle portion 17 will engage the lever 19 and move the free end of the latter toward the arm 11 so as to efiiciently confine and hold the line.
What I claim is An attachment for terret rings comprising a U-shaped frame having means project-ing laterally therefrom for attachment to a terret ring, the arm of said frame remote from said means being provided with a longitudinal slot, a lever having an angular extension at one end, said angular extension being pivoted at its free end to the arm connecting portion of the frame, a leaf spring secured to the inner side of the arm of the frame adjacent the attaching means, said leaf spring having its free end in engagement with said lever, and a second lever pivoted to the slotted arm of the frame and movable through said slot for cooperation with the first named lever when moved in one direction to pivot the first named lever against the influence of said leaf spring.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
LEWIS N. KNUDSON.
