the present invention UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JQI-IN LIPPS, OF MONTOUR, IOWA! CHEQKR i -SU PQ I specificatibn of Lettersretent. 11 522; 191;
Application filed February 28, 1914. Serial No. 821,758.
To all whom it mag concern:
.Beit known that I, JOHN Lirrs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montour, in the county of Tama and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Checkrein- Support, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in a check rein support, one object of being the provision of a two-part member carrying a check rein guiding roller, such parts being normally held in guiding position by means of the throat strap of a bridle, whereby the support may be readily detached to permit of the easy direction or insertion of the check rein therein without disengaging the rein from the bridle or disconnecting the sections thereof.
A further object of the present invention,
is the provision of a check rein support or guide, in which two members are provided, one end of each of which is apertured and curved to fit co-eXtensively upon one another, one of said members constituting a buckle to receive the terminal of the throat strap of a bridle to properly hold the sections together and at the same time support it from the bridle.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the-precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawingsFigure 1 is a View in perspective showing the present check rein support or guide in use. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the complete device and the portion of the throat strap attached thereto. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the complete device per 86.
Referring to the drawings,the support or holder 1 includes one member 2 provided with the curved and flattened apertured end 3 and with the reduced terminal 4. The other member 5 is provided with the enent device may be adjustably held in position. The reduced terminal 9 of the memher 5 is adapted to cooperate with the reduced member 4 of the member 2 and receive the journaling pin or rivet 10 for the check rein guiding roller 11. By this means the two members are properly assembled but due to the pivot 10 are permitted sliding movement from one side to the other so that the check rein 13 may be properly positioned therebetween without thenecessity of the disconnection thereof from the bit.
In use it will benoted, as in Fig. 2, that the terminal of the throat strap 12 is fed through from the under side so as to pass over the bar 7 so that one of the apertures of the strap will be upon the pin 8, the ter: minal of the strap being projected upon the opposite side of the bar 7 anddownwardly below the member 2, the terminal 4 of the member 2 being so curved as to permit of this arrangement, so that the roller 11 will be properly supported away from the animal adjacent to the throat strap.
What is claimed is:
1. A check rein support, composed of two members, each of which is provided with a long terminal, and a roller journaled be tween the terminals, one of the members having a flat apertured end while the other has a buckle formed in the corresponding end, whereby the terminal of a throat strap may engage the buckle to hold the members together.
2. A check rein support composed of two members, each of which is provided with a long terminal, a j ournaling pin holding the long terminals together, whereby the members may swing with the pines the axis, and a roller mounted upon the pin and disposed between the terminals and holding such terminals spaced, one of the membersbeing provided with a flat apertured end while the other member is provided with a buckle for disposition adjacent the apertured end my own, I have hereto aifixed my signature of the other member, and whereby the teIrin the presence of two Witnesses. minal of'a throat strap may engage t e buckle and the under side .of the apertured. JOHN LIPPS' 5 end of the other member to hold the mem- Witnesses: V bers against swinging movement. J. A. HARVEY In testimony that I claim the foregoing as J. M. BUCHANAN.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents.
