Definitions
- My invention relates to an aluminum alloy, with the object in view of'providing an alloy capable of being rolled into thin sheets or'otherwise manipulated as malleable metals are manipulated, to produce various useful articles.
- my invention consists in combining aluminum, zinc and copper in such proportions that the aluminum will be substantially five times by weight the amount of zinc and the zinc substantially five times by weight of the amount of copper.
- These substances are combined as follows: The aluminum is first melted and into this melted aluminum the copper is introduced in a cold state, preferably in the form of a copper wire. This mixture is then cooled down until it presents a dull red appearance, and the zinc is then added in a cold state to the mixture, conveniently in the form of pieces of zinc slab, and the mixture stirred thoroughly. A preliminary stirring may take place after introducing the copper into the melted aluminum, but this is not absolutely necessary. After the final mixture is thoroughly stirred, it may be poured into such form as desired for future manipulation. The composition of matter so formed -may be rolled into a thin sheet capable of being bent at pleasure, or it may be otherwise manipulated in the same manner in which malleable brass is manipulated.

Description
UNITi JD STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. MQADAMS, OF BAY SHORE, NEW YORK.
ALUMINUM ALLOY.
No Drawing.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Application filed December 20, 1912. Serial No. 737,894.
Patented Sept. 2, 1913.
My invention relates to an aluminum alloy, with the object in view of'providing an alloy capable of being rolled into thin sheets or'otherwise manipulated as malleable metals are manipulated, to produce various useful articles.
With these ends in View, my invention consists in combining aluminum, zinc and copper in such proportions that the aluminum will be substantially five times by weight the amount of zinc and the zinc substantially five times by weight of the amount of copper. These substances are combined as follows: The aluminum is first melted and into this melted aluminum the copper is introduced in a cold state, preferably in the form of a copper wire.
What I claim is: I An aluminum alloy composed of aluminum, zinc and copper in which the alumi mum is substantially five times by weight the amount of zinc and the zinc substantially five times by Weight the amount of copper. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two witnesses, this 19th day of ecember, 1912.
WILLIAM A. MQADAMS.
