Description
, WILLIAM A.MCADAMS, OF BAY SHORE, NEW YORK.
ALUMINUM ALLOY.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. MoAD- AMS, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Bay Shore, in the "county of Suffolk and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Aluminum Alloys, of which the following is a specification. 7
My invention relates to an aluminum a1- loy with the object in view of producing a very strong casting alloy which will not tarnish and which will be suitable for making instruments such, for example, as those used by doctors.
lVith this object in view, my invention consists in an aluminum alloy composed of aluminum, silver, zinc and copper, in' which the amount of zinc exceeds by weight the amount of copper; the amount of silver exceeds by weight the amount of'zinc; and the amount of aluminum exceeds by weight the amount of silver. The aforesaid elements are preferably combined substan tially in the proportion by weight of one hundred parts of aluminum, twenty parts of silver, ten parts of zinc and five parts of copper. In combining these elements 'a portion of the aluminum may be .melted and raised to a high heat, the .copper may specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 15, 1914.
Application filed Apri1'15, 1914. Serial N 0. 832,051.
then be introduced, followed'by the silver and the mass then cooled somewhat before introducing the zinc. During the. introduction of the several elements, the mass is kept thoroughly agitated. After the introduction of .the zinc, the mass may be poured and cast into ingots for shipment or may be directly cast into such shape as may be desired. A
What I claim is:
1. An aluminum alloy composed of aluminum, silver, zinc and copper, in which the proportion by weight of zinc exceeds the copper, the silver exceeds the zinc and the aluminum exceeds the silver.
2. An aluminum alloy composed of aluminum, silver, zinc and copper combined substantially in the proportion by weight of. one hundred parts aluminum, twenty parts silver, ten parts zinc and five parts copper.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name I in presence of two witnesses, this 14th day of April, 1914:.
WILLIAM A. MoADAMS.
