GEORGE W. SHERER, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.
STONE-CUTTERS INSTRUMENT.
Speccation of Letters Patent. Application filed February S, 1912.
Patented Oct. 29, 1912. Serial No. 676,280.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE bago, certain new and useful Improvements in Stone-Cutters Instruments', of which the following is a specification.
y invention relates to improvements in stone cutters instruments, and has for its object the provision of a device of this character which is of improved construction and operation.
he invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood reference to the accompanying forming a which-- Figure l is a perspective view of an instrument embodying my invention, Fig. 2, an enlarged to f plan view of a portion of the instrument with parts removed, and Fig. 3, a section taken on line m-w of Fig. 2.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawings, comprises a straight edge member l having clamping members 2 and 3 secured thereon and adapted to serve as means for clamping said straight edge member in position on a stone by drawings part of this specication, and in a clove-tail riby 4 on which is slidably mounted a cylindrical block 5, as shown. Block 5 carries a threaded stud 6 and a bevel angle member 7 is provided with a slot 8 adapted to it over block 5, as shown. A washer 9 is placed over stud 6 against the upper surface of member 7 and a binding nut l0 is threaded onto stud 6, as shown. The outer or operative portion of bevel angle member 7 1s bent downwardly into the same plane ber l and an abutment ll is formed therein and adapted to t snugly againstthe corre spending straight edge Aof member l to position the member 7 By this construction 1t will be observed that member l may be readily secured in position Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by

at right angles thereto.k
on a stone and straight edge for cutting letters or other figures in the stone, adjustments of said member 7 being readily effected by loosening and tightening nut l0.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modiiication without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the exact details' of construction setiorth, but
Iavlng described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. A device of the class described comprising a straight edge; a guide rib on said straight edge; a cylindrical block slidable on said rib; a bevel angle member slotted to lit over said block and bent downwardly to form an abutment adapted to fit against said straight edge to position said member at right angles to said edge; and a binding nut carried by said block and adapted to secure said bevel angle member in adjusted positions, substantially as described.
device of the class described comprising a straight edge; a dove-tail guide rib on said straight edge; a cylindrical block slidable on said rib and provided with a threaded stud; a bevel angle member slotted to fit over said block and bent downform an abutment adapted to fit against said straight edge to position said right angles to said edge; and a binding nut carried by said stud and adapted to secure said bevel angle member in adjusted positions, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specication in the presence oi two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE W. SHERER.
