Abstract

Aspects of the invention overcome the existing practices by providing a reusable packaging that serve both as a shipping packaging and a container or bag for everyday use. In one embodiment, the reusable packaging may have an appearance of an envelope. In another embodiment, the reusable packaging may be turn to a reversible container or bag through a pull tab. In a further embodiment, the reusable packaging may include shoulder straps or loops on the inside. In yet another embodiment, the reusable envelope may have two edges that can adjustably open so that a surface thereof may further accommodate add-on items, such as modular compartments. In one example, the interior of the reusable envelope may include attachment means, such as a hook and loop engagement system.

Description

Reusable and returnable packaging containers, equipment and devices

This application generally relates to packaging. In particular, aspects of the present invention relate to reusable universal packaging.

Internet commerce has changed the way people live and shop. Merchants offer virtual stores on the Internet to showcase their products. At the same time, consumers access these businesses through Internet-connected portable devices. The convenience of mobile devices enables users to purchase goods globally and deliver them securely to consumers.

This convenience comes at no cost. Leaving aside shipping costs, the impact and environmental waste from the packaging of goods is enormous. For example, existing packaging means such as envelopes, pouches, boxes, polyethylene shipping envelopes, etc. are often used. These packages use different materials. Shippers looking to reduce costs often use a variety of lightweight materials such as foam board, cardboard and plastic as packaging materials. However, in addition to pure paper-based materials, many plastic-based materials may not be easy to recycle.

And, as for branding, brand owners often have little control over how they are branded on shipping packaging. For example, brand owners typically contract with a shipper, who then takes care of it Logistics and transportation. In this way, the choice of packaging is up to the shipper, and the most commonly used branding method may be stickers or other temporary branding devices.

In addition, more and more government agencies are working to reduce the use of single-use plastic shopping bags. In this way, consumers either need to buy those single-use plastic shopping bags on the spot, or they have to go to the store with the bags themselves.

Therefore, there is a need to improve existing practices to overcome the shortcomings of existing methods.

Aspects of the present invention address the problems of existing practice by providing a reusable package that is used both as a shipping package and as a container or bag for everyday use. In one embodiment, the reusable packaging may have the appearance of an envelope. In another embodiment, the reusable package can be turned into a reversible container or bag by pulling on the tab. In yet another embodiment, the reusable package may include shoulder straps or loops on the inside. In yet another embodiment, the reusable envelope can have two edges that can be adjustably opened so that its surface can further accommodate additional items, such as modular compartments. In one example, the interior of the reusable envelope may include attachment means, such as a hook and loop system.

Embodiments will now be described more fully with reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part hereof and which illustrate, by way of illustration, specific exemplary embodiments that may be practiced. These illustrations and exemplary embodiments are presented with the understanding that this disclosure is illustrative of the principles of one or more embodiments and is not intended to limit any one embodiment shown. FIG. 1 illustrates one embodiment of a reusable package 100 in accordance with some embodiments. In one embodiment, the package 100 may be in the form of a container having a body with two members. In one embodiment, the two members may include a first member and a second member. In one example, the first and second members may be sheets or walls of a container (eg, package 100). In one embodiment, each member may include: four edges, an inner surface, an outer surface.

In one embodiment, the package 100 may take the form of an envelope, shipping package, or pouch. In another embodiment, the package 100 may be converted into or reused as a case, cooler, envelope, delivery package, tote bag, backpack with drawstring, mailer, or satchel. In another embodiment, the package 100 can also be converted into a vertically hanging container system, garment bag, or the like.

As shown in FIG. 1 , the package 100 may include a first surface 102 . In one example, the first surface 102 may be the first outer surface of the package 100 as seen by the consumer, with shipping on the first surface 102 Label, Air Waybill or Packing List 104. In one embodiment, such a label or slip may be inserted into pocket 106 in FIG. 1a, as indicated by arrow 130. In one embodiment, pocket 106 may have one open side (eg, upper side 106a ), while three other sides ( 106b , 106c , 106d ) may be secured to first surface 102 . In one embodiment, the open side 106a of the pocket 106 may include a sealing mechanism, such as a zipper, snap button, or the like. In one embodiment, the material used for the pocket 106 may be made from recyclable materials such as recyclable plastic.

Referring again to FIG. 1 , the package 100 may further include a first main hem 108 extending from one edge 110 of the envelope 100 . In one embodiment, the first main hem 108 may be joined to the edge 110 by stitching so that the first main hem 108 may be removed from the envelope 100 or the envelope 100 may be separated from the first main hem 108 . In another embodiment, the first main flap 108 may be the same material as the envelope 100 , but may include a weakened area 120 . In one embodiment, the weakened area 120 may include a line of perforations, wherein the perforations are made to help separate the first main hem 108 from the edge 110 . In another embodiment, the weakened area 120 may include a perforated area 120 in which a portion of the material may be removed such that the weakened area assists in separating the first main hem 108 from the edge 110 . In another embodiment, the first main hem 108 may be removed by cutting it off with scissors or a knife. Reference may also be made to Figures 4a and 4b, which show illustrations of how the first main hem 108 is removed. It should be understood that other methods of removing the first main hem 108 from the edge 110 may be used without departing from the scope and spirit of the present invention.

In one embodiment, the first main hem 108 can include adhesive on one side so that it can be bonded to the second main hem 114 that engages the edge 118 of the package 110 together, as shown in Figure 2. In one embodiment, the second main flange 114 may also include another adhesive so that the first main flange 118 and the second main flange 114 may be secured together. For example, the first main hem 118 and the second main hem 114 may each have sides facing each other, and the adhesive may be disposed on the facing sides.

In one embodiment, as shown in Figure 4c, the first main hem 404 may include adhesive on one side, but in such an embodiment there is no second main hem. In such an example, the packaging can use bubble wrap inside. In another embodiment, the inner liner may further comprise other cushioning materials, such as felt fabric or the like. In one embodiment, the inner protective liner may be removable, such that once the package 100 is in the flipped state, the protective liner is removed without revealing, which may not be aesthetically pleasing. In such an embodiment, a pair of scissors or a knife may be used to sever the connection or joint between the first main hem 404 and the first edge. In this way, the first main flap 404 may remain on the package 100 after the package is opened.

In another embodiment as shown in Figure 4d, a second main hem 406 may be provided. However, the first main hem 408 is folded towards the second main hem 406 to create or maintain the seal. To open the seal, the consumer can pull a strip or tear-off patch 410 to split the first main hem 408 into two parts via the weakened area 412. By doing so, the package 100 can be opened and the consumer can look for the contents. In another embodiment, the first main hem 408 and the second main hem 406 may be further removed in accordance with the discussion herein and with reference to at least Figures 3, 4a and 4b.

In one embodiment, the second main hem 114 may also be joined together with the edge 118 by stitching so that the second main hem 114 may be removed from the envelope 100 or the envelope 100 may be separated from the second main hem 114 . In another embodiment, the second main flap 114 may be the same material as the envelope 100 , but may include the weakened area 122 . In one embodiment, the weakened area 122 may include a line of perforations, wherein the perforations are made to help separate the second main hem 114 from the edge 110 . In another embodiment, the weakened area 122 may include a perforated area in which a portion of the material may be removed such that the weakened area assists in separating the second main hem 114 from the edge 110 . It should be understood that without departing from this Other methods of removing the second main hem 114 from the edge 110 may be used within the scope and spirit of the present invention.

In one embodiment, the package 110 may be used as a shipping package from a merchant, and when the package 110 is received by a consumer, the first main fold 108 and the second main fold 114 are sealed to protect their contents. Upon receipt of the package 110 , the consumer may remove the first main flap 108 and the second main flap 114 to remove the contents from the interior of the package 110 .

In one embodiment, if the consumer finds the content incorrect, unusable, or objectionable for any reason, the consumer may wish to return the content to the merchant. The consumer may return the merchandise to the merchant using the same package 110 (rather than using another package) by using the first secondary hem 112 on the edge 110 and the second secondary hem 116 on the edge 118 . In one embodiment, the first secondary fold 112 and the second secondary fold 116 may first be folded into the interior of the package 110 (shown in phantom in Figures 1 and 2) so that the consumer can fold the folds 112 and 116 are turned over to the position of the folds 108 and 114.

In one embodiment, the second surface 124 of the package 100 may include the merchant's return address printed thereon. In another embodiment, similar to the pocket 106 on the first surface 102, the return address may be printed on a removable label or pouch.

In another embodiment, referring to FIG. 3 , a perspective view shows the interior of the package 100 . 3, the first and second primary folds 108 and 114 are shown in their initial positions, while the first secondary fold 112 is in their folded position. In one aspect, the package 100 may be a reusable bag, as discussed in FIGS. 1 and 2 . In another aspect, the package 100 may be a reversible bag. In one embodiment, the reversible bag 100 may include a set of handles attached to the edge 110 and the edge 118, respectively. In one embodiment, the handle 302 may be attached to the edge 110 below or behind the first secondary hem 112 . Similarly, another handle (not shown) may be attached to the edge 118 below or behind the second secondary hem 116 . A handle, such as handle 302 , may be sewn to first surface 102 or second surface 124 . In yet another embodiment, the handle (through hot stamping) onto the first surfaces 102 and 124 . A closure mechanism 304 may be added. In one example, the closure mechanism 304 may include a zipper, a set of snaps, a set of magnets, and the like.

In one embodiment, another pull patch 306 may be sewn or permanently secured to the other edge of the package 100 in order to assist in turning the package over. In one embodiment, patch 306 may be provided at edge 308 , which may be opposite edges 110 and 118 . In yet another embodiment, the patch 306 may comprise a loop. In yet another embodiment, the patch 306 may be a label or string. In another embodiment, edge 308 may be opposite the opening created by edges 110 and 118 .

5-6, an exemplary process for turning the package 100 over is shown. In one embodiment, as shown in FIG. 5 , the consumer may insert a hand into the interior of the package 100 to pull the patch 306 in the direction indicated by arrow 502 . In this method, the consumer may continue to pull the patch 306 in the other direction 504 such that the interior of the package 100 becomes the exterior of the package 100 as shown in FIG. 6 .

In one embodiment, the first and second secondary flaps 112 and 116 can be flipped in direction 602 if desired. In one embodiment, similar to the first and second primary folds 108 and 114, the first and second secondary folds 112 and 116 may be removed via weakened regions as described above.

Accordingly, aspects of the present invention provide a solution to the aforementioned long-standing need. In particular, consumers receive shipping packaging that can be used for returns and as a convenience bag for everyday use. Additionally, aspects of the present invention provide a return seal in one location that is part of the package 100 . Some existing practices may include small padlocks that lock the zippered handles for secure returns. However, locks can easily be lost during consumer opening. Furthermore, the zipper and lock combination is costly to mass produce and to the shipper or merchant. Aspects of the present invention provide first and second primary folds and first and second second secondary folds to allow for easy and routine shipping and return. Additionally, the reversibility enables the package 100 to become a bag for grocery stores or other items.

In another embodiment, the interior of the package 100 may include a surface suitable for printing or sewing. For example, a merchant may wish to allow the consumer to present the package 100 after turning the package over.

In yet another embodiment, the package 100 may be opened to reveal the inner surface of the package 100 by opening three sides of the package 100 . For example, referring now to FIG. 7, an interior surface of an opened package 700 is shown according to some embodiments. In one embodiment, the package 700 may start from a closed state similar to the package 100 in FIG. 1 or FIG. 3, wherein the sealing of the three edges or sides of the package 100 is relatively permanent, thereby providing only one useful An opening for placing items into the package 100. In one embodiment, as shown in FIG. 7, package 700 may be opened at three edges 702, 704, and 706 (eg, as indicated by arrows 730, 732, and 734). In other words, the bond at edges 702 and 706 may be removable or releasable. For example, based on FIGS. 1 and 3 , the edge 704 is designed to be opened. The combination of edges 702 or 706 may be removed or reduced when the consumer removes the first secondary hem and the second secondary hem, indicating that the consumer does not wish to return the merchandise or items in the package 700, but rather wishes to use the package 700 for Grocery bags or similar items for everyday use. In one embodiment, inner surfaces 708 and 710 are exposed by removing the bond between edges 702 and 706 .

Aspects of the present invention overcome the challenges and shortcomings of existing approaches by providing a convenient and elegant solution for reusing the package 100 as a return. The return sealing mechanism, including the first and second secondary hem, is part of the package, not as an external part that the consumer may misplace or throw away.

In one embodiment, as shown in Figure 7a, the inner surfaces 708 and 710 may include one or more compartments 736 secured thereto. In one example, the compartments 736 may be sewn or otherwise securely secured to the inner surfaces 708 and 710 . In one embodiment, the compartment 736 may be a pocket with a resealable mechanism (eg, a zipper). In another embodiment, inner surfaces 708 and 710 may include zippered or buttoned pockets 738 . It should be understood that other additional storage means may be provided on the inner surfaces 708 and 710 .

In one embodiment, inner surfaces 708 and 710 may include a hook and loop system (eg, Velcro®) that enables attachment of items or external compartments, such as those compartments 712, 714, and 716 shown in Figure 7b . In another embodiment, other accessories may be added, such as the folding hanger 808 of FIG. 8 may be inserted into the patch 718 for hanging clothing.

In yet another embodiment, the hook and loop system of inner surfaces 708 and 710 may be only a portion of inner surfaces 708 and 710 . In another embodiment, the inner surface 708 or 710 may further include a tab 718 that may receive the hook 720 so that the package 700 may be hung, and the compartments 712, 714 and 716 may contain items for consumers .

In yet another embodiment, referring to Figures 8a-8f, according to some embodiments, packaging 800 may include gussets 802 and external straps or tape. For example, the package 800 may include gussets 802 to define the width of the package 800 and also enable the package 800 to stand upright, with a company name on top. In such an embodiment, when the package 800 is turned over, a stand-up pouch may be provided to the consumer. In some embodiments, one of the edges may further include a grooved zipper or button strap or the like to form a hidden pocket. For purposes of illustration only, the package 800 may include a material that is double-sided, such that each surface (eg, the first and second surfaces) may include two pieces of fabric or material. When opened as shown in Figures 7, 8c and 8d, this configuration makes it possible to invert the packaging. The edges can reveal hidden zippers, button straps or other adhesive devices so that consumers can insert items into them. Additionally, as shown in Figure 8c, the package 814 may include compartment 1 (for cosmetics or small items), compartment 2 (for shoes or large items), and compartment 3 (for small items).

In another embodiment, referring now to 8b and 8d, a buckle or belt and buckle system 812 may be used. In one aspect, the belt and buckle system 812 can include a lock that also meets the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) standards for a lock. In such an embodiment, the package 814 may first include a set of tapes 810 and a belt and buckle system 812 to secure the item therein as it is shipped to the consumer. Once the consumer receives it, after the tape 810 is removed, the belt and buckle system 812 remains on it and And can be used to return packaging 814. If the consumer decides to keep the package 814, three sides of the package 814 can be opened, leaving only one side or edge of the package 814 intact. In an alternate embodiment, two of the three edges may be joined together using a zipper or button tape to restore the package 814 to its original state. It should be understood that other fastener mechanisms may be used.

In yet another embodiment, the figures shown in Figures 8e and 8f, the package 820 may include a belt and buckle system inside the package 820. In another embodiment, the package 824 may include a magnetic strip system 828 for securing the opening of the package 824 . The system 828 may include a magnetic strip 826 and a locking bar or strip 830 designed to have grooves on the magnetic strip 826 and protrusions or indents on the strip 830 to allow opening of the package 824, which may instruct the consumer to pull or slide The strip 830 opens the seal. As shown in Figure 8e, the package 820 may employ a Velcro system for closure, a TSA lock system, and have strap fasteners (outside and inside) that prevent the straps from easily disengaging.

In another embodiment, Figures 8g-8i show another set of views of a belt and buckle system according to some embodiments. For example, Figure 8g may show the package 832 in its initial or shipping state. In another embodiment, the packaging 832 may be in the state as received by the consumer. In this embodiment, the wrapper 832 may have the appearance of an envelope with a seal 834 at the edge.

In one embodiment, once the seal 832 is removed or opened, the same package 832 can be turned over to the turned state shown in Figure 8h. As previously previously discussed, the buckle system 836 may be included in the interior of a package such as the package 832 . Of course, in the initial state of Figure 8g, the belt and buckle system 836 may not be visible to the consumer. The belt and buckle system 836 can then reveal itself when turned over. Additionally, as shown in FIG. 8h , the belt and buckle system 836 may be exposed from the first surface 838 . In another embodiment, due to the configuration of the package 832, portions of the package 832 may be rolled or folded.

In another embodiment, as shown in Figure 8i, the second surface 842 of the package 832 is shown. For example, the package 832 may include belt loops 844 on the first surface 838, as shown in Figure 8h, on the second surface A belt loop 846 is formed on 842 . Using the belt and buckle system 836, the consumer can place their arms behind the belt and buckle system 836 so that the package 832 can become a backpack.

Figures 9a to 9d show another set of embodiments of the present invention. For example, the package 900 of Figure 9a may be one of the package envelopes previously described. In this example, the package 900 may include a primary flap 902 to seal the package 900 . In another embodiment, the package 900 may include a snap 904 on an inner surface of the package 900 . As shown in Figure 9a, the snaps 904 appear to be on the outwardly facing surface. However, it should be on an inner surface. In one embodiment, the package 900 may be in a landscape orientation/mode, rather than only a portrait orientation/mode as shown in Figure 9a.

In one embodiment, according to Figure 9b, when the package 900 is turned over in its landscape mode, the buckle 904 is exposed, and when the package 900 is turned over, the folded edge 906 can be exposed. In one example, the flap 906 can be attached to one edge of the package 900 . In yet another embodiment, snaps 908 may be provided on the hem 906 such that the snaps may snap to the snaps 904 . In this way, snaps 908 and snaps 904 can be positioned at corresponding locations on the hem 906 and the first surface, respectively. In another embodiment, the package 900 may include cover snaps 910 , which may be decorative or serve as an indication of the snaps 908 . In another embodiment, the package 900 may be in a landscape orientation, as shown in Figure 9d. In such an embodiment, the flipped package 900 can be used as a jewelry bag or envelope.

In yet another embodiment, Figures 10a and 10b illustrate another aspect of a package according to some embodiments. Similar to some of the above discussions, the package 1000 may be in the form of an envelope, and may include a hem 1002 to seal the package 1000 prior to receipt by the consumer, and may include a company name on it. Once turned over, the package 1000 can include a drawstring strap 1004 so that the consumer can carry the package 1000 on her back. In another embodiment, the package 1000 may further include an indicator 1006 to indicate the presence of a drawstring inside or the possibility of a string passing through.

In alternate embodiments, aspects of the present invention may be in a form for accommodating larger items such as shoes and the like. In such a configuration, as shown in Figures 11a and 11b, the package 1100 may resemble a cuboid with a first panel 1102 having a shipping label panel 1110 to open the package 1100 and may have a company name on it. In one embodiment, panel 1102 can be disengaged from three sides of package 1100. In another embodiment, the panel 1102 can be detached in one or more ways, such as via at least one zipper. In one embodiment, a lock 1104 may be provided to secure the panel 1102. In another embodiment, the panel 1102 may be secured using a pull zipper. As shown in FIG. 11b, with the panel 1102 in the open position and in the flipped state, a handle 1106 may be provided. On the one hand, the flipped state is indicated in FIG. 11 b based on the fact that the shipping label panel 1110 is now on the interior of the panel 1102 .

In some embodiments, the packages shown in at least one of the figures discussed may be fabricated from panels or sheets of recyclable material that may be joined together at their edges using heat stitching or hand stitching. For example, the material may include an antibacterial or antiviral material or one or more treatment materials that perform such a treatment on the fabric, a washable material, water repellency or some degree of water repellency. In some embodiments, the package may include a surface antimicrobial or an antiviral film that can be removed after the package is received by the consumer. In some other embodiments, the loop or pull patch 306 may also be secured to the interior edge of the package by heat stitching or hand stitching.

In some embodiments, the package as shown in at least one of the figures discussed may take a variety of shapes and configurations, for example one side may be operably opened while the other three sides are fixedly closed, or three One side can be operably opened and one side is fixedly closed.

In some embodiments, the operable open sides may include a total of four hem or lips for sealing. Optionally, these four folds or lips or parts of them can be removed and can be combined with the bag reassemble them together. In some embodiments, the operable open sides may include closure mechanisms such as hook and loop systems (eg, Velcro®), ties, snaps, tape, hems, and buckles.

In some embodiments, the packaging may further include a zipper or other tamper-resistant lock or seal.

In some embodiments, the first surface or the first outer surface may include a pocket-shaped label or pocket thereon. In some embodiments, the consumer may remove the packages upon receiving them, eg, they are sewn or glued.

In some embodiments, the interior of the package may include one or more hanging pockets. In some embodiments, the pockets may include zippers or snaps or other closure mechanisms.

Additionally, in some embodiments, similar to Figure 4c, the package may further include additional liners, such as foam, bubble panels, cushioning, insulating inlays, for further protection of fragile items, and the like. In some embodiments, a portion of the packaging may include premium materials such as leather or the like.
