Abstract

Aspects of the invention overcome the existing practices by providing a reusable packaging that serve both as a shipping packaging and a container or bag for everyday use. In one embodiment, the reusable packaging may have an appearance of an envelope. In another embodiment, the reusable packaging may be tum to a reversible container or bag through a pull tab. In a further embodiment, the reusable packaging may include shoulder straps or loops on the inside. In yet another embodiment, the reusable envelope may have two edges that can adjustably open so that a surface thereof may further accommodate add-on items, such as modular compartments. In one example, the interior of the reusable envelope may include attachment means, such as a hook and loop engagement system.

This application relates generally to packaging. In particular, aspects of the invention relate to reusable universal packaging.

Internet commerce has changed the way people live and shop. Merchants provide virtual stores on the Internet to display their wares. At the same time, consumers access these merchants through portable devices connected to the Internet. The convenience of mobile devices enables users to purchase goods globally and have them safely delivered to consumers.

This convenience comes at no cost. Shipping costs aside, the packaging impact and environmental waste of goods is enormous. For example, existing packaging means such as envelopes, pouches, boxes, polyethylene shipping envelopes, etc. are often used. These packages use different materials. Shippers looking to keep costs down often use a variety of lightweight materials such as foam board, cardboard and plastic for packaging. However, with the exception of pure paper-based materials, many plastic-based materials may not be easily recycled.

And, when it comes to branding, the brand owner usually has little control over how the branding is presented on the shipping package. For example, a brand owner will usually contract a shipper, who will then be responsible for responsible for logistics and transportation. In this way, the choice of packaging is up to the shipper, and the most commonly used branding method may be stickers or other temporary branding means.

In addition, more and more government agencies are working to reduce the use of single-use plastic shopping bags. In this way, consumers either need to buy those single-use plastic shopping bags on the spot, or they must carry the bags to the store themselves.

Therefore, there is a need to improve existing practices to overcome the shortcomings of existing methods.

Aspects of the present invention address the problems of existing practice by providing a reusable package that is used both as a shipping package and as a container or bag for everyday use. In one embodiment, the reusable package may have the appearance of an envelope. In another embodiment, the reusable package can be turned into a reversible container or bag by pulling on the patch. In yet another embodiment, the reusable package may include a shoulder strap or loop on the inside. In yet another embodiment, the reusable envelope can have two edges that can be adjustably opened so that its surface can further accommodate additional items, such as modular compartments. In one example, the interior of the reusable envelope may include attachment means, such as a hook and loop engagement system.

Embodiments will now be described more fully with reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part hereof and show by way of illustration specific example embodiments in which they may be practiced. These illustrations and exemplary embodiments are presented with the understanding that this disclosure is an illustration of the principles of one or more embodiments and is not intended to be limiting of any one embodiment shown. Embodiments may be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure may be thorough and complete, and may fully expand the scope of the embodiments communicated to those skilled in the art. Among them, the present invention may be embodied as a method, system, computer readable medium, device or equipment. Accordingly, the invention can take the form of an entirely hardware embodiment, an entirely software embodiment or an embodiment combining software and hardware aspects. Accordingly, the following detailed description is not to be considered limiting.

Figure 1 illustrates one embodiment of a reusable package 100 according to some embodiments. In one embodiment, package 100 may be in the form of a container having a body with two components. In one embodiment, the two components may include a first component and a second component. In one example, the first and second members may be sheets or walls of a container, such as package 100 . In one embodiment, each member may include: four edges, an inner surface, and an outer surface.

In one embodiment, package 100 may take the form of an envelope, delivery package, or pouch. In another embodiment, the package 100 can be converted or reused as a box, cooler, envelope, delivery package, tote bag, backpack with drawstring, pouch, or carry bag. In another embodiment, package 100 may also be converted into a vertically hanging container system, garment bag, or the like.

As shown in FIG. 1 , package 100 may include a first surface 102 . In one example, the first surface 102 may be the first exterior surface of the package 100 as seen by a consumer with a shipping label, air waybill, or packing slip 104 on the first surface 102 . In one embodiment, such a label or slip can be inserted In pocket 106 in FIG. 1 a , as indicated by arrow 130 . In one embodiment, pocket 106 may have one open side (eg, upper side 106a ), while three other sides ( 106b , 106c , 106d ) may be secured to first surface 102 . In one embodiment, the open side 106a of the pocket 106 may include a sealing mechanism, such as a zipper, a snap button, or the like. In one embodiment, the material used for the pocket 106 may be made from recyclable materials such as recyclable plastic.

Referring again to FIG. 1 , the package 100 may further include a first main flap 108 extending from one edge 110 of the envelope 100 . In one embodiment, the first main flap 108 may be joined to the edge 110 by stitching such that the first main flap 108 may be removed from the envelope 100 or the envelope 100 may be separated from the first primary flap 108 . In another embodiment, the first main flap 108 may be the same material as the envelope 100 , but may include a weakened area 120 . In one embodiment, the weakened area 120 may include a line of perforations to facilitate separation of the first main hem 108 from the edge 110 . In another embodiment, the weakened region 120 may include a perforated region 120 in which a portion of material may be removed such that the weakened region facilitates separation of the first main hem 108 from the edge 110 . In another embodiment, the first main flange 108 may be removed by cutting it away with scissors or a knife. Reference is also made to Figures 4a and 4b, which show illustrations of how the first main flap 108 is removed. It should be understood that other methods of removing first main hem 108 from edge 110 may be used without departing from the scope and spirit of the present invention.

In one embodiment, the first main flap 108 can include adhesive on one side so that it can be bonded to the second main flap 114 that engages the edge 118 of the package 110 together, as shown in Figure 2. In one embodiment, the second main hem 114 may also include another adhesive such that the first main hem 118 and the second main hem 114 may be secured together. For example, first main flap 118 and second main flap 114 may each have sides facing each other, and adhesive may be disposed on the facing sides.

In one embodiment, as shown in Figure 4c, the first main fold 404 may include adhesive on one side, but in such an embodiment there is no second main fold. In such an example, the packaging could use bubble wrap on the inside. In another embodiment, the inner liner may further include other cushioning materials, such as felt fabric and the like. In one embodiment, the inner protective liner may be removable such that once the package 100 is turned over, the protective liner is removed without revealing it, which may be aesthetically unsightly. In such an embodiment, a pair of scissors or a knife may be used to sever the connection or joint between the first main flap 404 and the first edge. In this way, the first main flap 404 can remain on the package 100 after the package has been opened.

In another embodiment as shown in Figures 4d and 4e, a second main flap 406 may be provided. However, the first main flap 408 is folded toward the second main flap 406 to create or maintain a seal. To break the seal, the consumer can pull a strip or tear-off patch 410 to divide the first main hem 408 into two parts via the weakened region 412 . By doing so, the package 100 can be opened and the consumer can search for the contents. In another embodiment, the first main flap 408 and the second main flap 406 may be further removed in accordance with the discussion herein and with reference to at least Figures 3, 4a, and 4b.

In one embodiment, the second main flap 114 may also be joined to the edge 118 by stitching such that the second main flap 114 may be removed from the envelope 100 or the envelope 100 may be separated from the second main flap 114 . In another embodiment, the second main flap 114 may be the same material as the envelope 100 , but may include a weakened area 122 . In one embodiment, the weakened region 122 may include a line of perforations to facilitate separation of the second main hem 114 from the edge 110 . In another embodiment, the weakened region 122 may include a perforated region in which a portion of material may be removed such that the weakened region facilitates separation of the second main hem 114 from the edge 110 . It should be understood that, without departing from this Other methods of removing the second primary hem 114 from the edge 110 may be used without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention.

In one embodiment, package 110 may be used as a shipping package from a merchant, and when package 110 is received by a consumer, first main flap 108 and second main flap 114 are sealed to protect their contents. Upon receiving package 110 , the consumer may remove first and second main flaps 108 , 114 to access the contents of package 110 from the inside.

In one embodiment, the consumer may wish to return the content to the merchant if for any reason the consumer finds the content to be incorrect, unusable or objectionable. The consumer can return the merchandise to the merchant using the same package 110 (instead of using another package) by using the first secondary flap 112 on the edge 110 and the second secondary flap 116 on the edge 118 . In one embodiment, the first secondary flap 112 and the second secondary flap 116 may be first folded into the interior of the package 110 (shown in phantom in FIGS. 1 and 2 ), so that the consumer can fold the flaps 112 and 116 are turned over into the position of flaps 108 and 114 .

In one embodiment, the second surface 124 of the package 100 may include a merchant's return address printed thereon. In another embodiment, the return address may be printed on a removable label or pouch similar to the pocket 106 on the first surface 102 .

In another embodiment, referring to FIG. 3 , a perspective view shows the interior of package 100 . Referring to FIG. 3 , the first and second primary flaps 108 and 114 are shown in their initial positions, while the first secondary flap 112 is shown in its folded position. In one aspect, package 100 may be a reusable bag, as discussed in FIGS. 1 and 2 . In another aspect, package 100 may be a reversible bag. In one embodiment, reversible bag 100 may include a set of handles attached to edge 110 and edge 118, respectively. In one embodiment, the handle 302 may be attached to the edge 110 below or behind the first secondary flap 112 . Similarly, another handle (not shown) may be attached to the edge 118 below or behind the second secondary flap 116 . You can put the handle 302 and the like The handle is stitched to either the first surface 102 or the second surface 124 . In yet another embodiment, the handle can be embossed (by heat pressing) onto the first surfaces 102 and 124 . A closure mechanism 304 may be added. In one example, closure mechanism 304 may include a zipper, a set of snap buttons, a set of magnets, or the like.

In one embodiment, another pull panel 306 may be sewn or permanently affixed to the other edge of the package 100 in order to aid in turning the package over. In one embodiment, patch 306 may be disposed at edge 308 , which may be opposite edges 110 and 118 . In yet another embodiment, the patch 306 may comprise a ring. In yet another embodiment, the patch 306 may be a tag or a string. In another embodiment, edge 308 may be opposite the opening created by edges 110 and 118 .

Referring to Figures 5-6, an exemplary process for inverting the package 100 is shown. In one embodiment, as shown in FIG. 5 , a consumer may insert a hand into the interior of package 100 to pull patch 306 in the direction indicated by arrow 502 . In this method, the consumer may continue to pull the patch 306 in the other direction 504 such that the interior of the package 100 becomes the exterior of the package 100 as shown in FIG. 6 .

In one embodiment, first and second secondary flaps 112 and 116 may be reversed in direction 602, if desired. In one embodiment, similar to the first and second primary flaps 108 and 114, the first and second secondary flaps 112 and 116 may be removed via the weakened area as described above.

Aspects of the present invention thus provide a solution to the long felt need described above. In particular, consumers receive shipping packaging that can be used for returns and as a convenience bag for everyday use. Additionally, aspects of the present invention provide a returns seal in one place as part of the package 100 . Some existing practices can include small padlocks that lock zipper handles to make returns secure. However, the lock can be easily lost while the consumer is in the process of opening it. Additionally, the zipper and lock combination is cost prohibitive to mass produce and to the shipper or merchant. Aspects of the invention provide first and second main flaps and first and second Secondary hem to allow for easy and routine shipping and returns. Additionally, reversibility enables package 100 to be a bag for grocery or other items.

In another embodiment, the interior of package 100 may include surfaces suitable for printing or sewing. For example, a merchant may wish to allow a consumer to display package 100 after turning the package over.

In yet another embodiment, the package 100 can be opened to expose the inner surface of the package 100 by opening three sides of the package 100 . For example, referring now to FIG. 7 , an interior surface of an opened package 700 is shown, in accordance with some embodiments. In one embodiment, package 700 may start in a closed state similar to package 100 in FIG. 1 or FIG. An opening for placing items into the package 100. In one embodiment, as shown in FIG. 7, package 700 may be opened at three edges 702, 704, and 706 (eg, as indicated by arrows 730, 732, and 734). In other words, the bond at edges 702 and 706 may be removable or releasable. For example, based on FIGS. 1 and 3 , edge 704 is designed to be opened. When the consumer removes the first and second hems, the combination of edges 702 or 706 may be removed or reduced, indicating that the consumer does not wish to return the goods or items in package 700, but rather to use package 700 for A grocery bag or similar for everyday use. In one embodiment, interior surfaces 708 and 710 are exposed by removing the bond between edges 702 and 706 .

Aspects of the present invention overcome the challenges and shortcomings of existing approaches by providing a convenient and elegant solution for reusing the package 100 as a return. The return sealing mechanism, including the first and second secondary flaps, is part of the package rather than being an external part that the consumer could misplace or throw away.

In one embodiment, as shown in FIG. 7a, inner surfaces 708 and 710 may include one or more compartments 736 secured thereto. In one example, compartment 736 may be sewn or otherwise securely secured to inner surfaces 708 and 710 . In one embodiment, compartment 736 may be a resealable A pocket with a sealing mechanism (such as a zipper). In another embodiment, interior surfaces 708 and 710 may include zippered or buttoned pockets 738 . It should be understood that other additional storage means may be provided on the inner surfaces 708 and 710 .

In one embodiment, inner surfaces 708 and 710 may include male portions of a male-female fastener system to accommodate female portions of the male-female fastener system, wherein the male-female fastener system includes a hook and loop system (such as Velcro®), the The male part comprises a hook and the female part comprises a loop, the hook and loop system enabling the attachment of items or external compartments, such as those compartments 712, 714 and 716 shown in Figure 7b. In another embodiment, other accessories can be added, for example the folding hanger 808 in FIG. 8 can be inserted into the patch 718 for hanging clothes.

In yet another embodiment, the hook and loop system of the inner surfaces 708 and 710 may be only a portion of the inner surfaces 708 and 710 . In another embodiment, the interior surface 708 or 710 may further include a patch 718 that may accommodate a hook 720 so that the package 700 may be hung and the compartments 712, 714, and 716 may accommodate items for the consumer .

In yet another embodiment, referring to Figures 8a-8f, according to some embodiments, a package 800 may include a gusset 802 and an external strap or tape. For example, package 800 may include gussets 802 to create the width of package 800 and also enable package 800 to stand upright. In such an embodiment, the consumer may be provided with a stand-up pouch when the package 800 is turned over. In some embodiments, one of the edges may further include a grooved zipper or button strap or the like to form a hidden pocket. For purposes of illustration only, package 800 may include the material as a double-panel such that each surface (eg, first and second surfaces) may include two sheets of fabric or material. This configuration makes it possible to turn the package inside out when opened as shown in Figures 7, 8c and 8d. The edges may expose concealed zippers, button ties, or other adhesive devices so consumers can insert items into them.

In another embodiment, referring now to 8b and 8d, a buckle or belt and buckle system 812 may be used. In one aspect, the strap and buckle system 812 can include a lock that also meets Transportation Security Administration (TSA) lock standards. In such an embodiment, the package 814 may first include a set of adhesive tapes 810 and a strap and buckle system 812 to secure the item therein when it is sent to the customer. Once the consumer receives it, after the tape 810 is removed, the strap and buckle system 812 remains on it and can be used to return the package 814 . If the consumer decides to keep the package 814, three sides of the package 814 can be opened, leaving only one side or edge of the package 814 intact. In an alternate embodiment, two of the three edges may be joined together using zippers or button ties to return the package 814 to its original condition. It should be understood that other fastener mechanisms may be used.

In yet another embodiment, shown in FIGS. 8e and 8f , the package 820 may include a belt and buckle system inside the package 820 . In another embodiment, the package 824 may include a magnetic strip system 828 for securing the opening of the package 824 . The system 828 may include a magnetic strip 826 and a locking bar or strip 830 designed with a groove on the magnet 826 and a protrusion or notch on the strip 830 so that opening the package 824 may instruct the consumer to pull or slide the Strip 830 to break the seal.

In another embodiment, Figures 8g-8i illustrate another set of views of a belt and buckle system according to some embodiments. For example, Figure 8g may show package 832 in its initial or shipping state. In another embodiment, the packaging 832 may be in a state as received by the consumer. In this embodiment, wrapper 832 may have the appearance of an envelope with seal 834 at the edges.

In one embodiment, once the seal 832 is removed or opened, the same package 832 can be turned inside out into the turned-up position as shown in Figure 8h. As previously previously discussed, buckle system 836 may be included on the interior of a package, such as package 832 . Of course, in the initial state of Figure 8g, the strap and buckle system 836 may not be visible to the consumer. Then, when turned over, the strap and buckle system 836 can Expose yourself. Additionally, a strap and buckle system 836 may be exposed from a first surface 838, as shown in FIG. 8h. In another embodiment, due to the configuration of the package 832, portions of the package 832 may be rolled or folded.

In another embodiment, as shown in Figure 8i, a second surface 842 of the package 832 is shown. For example, package 832 may include belt loop 844 on first surface 838 and belt loop 846 on second surface 842 as shown in FIG. 8h. Utilizing the strap and buckle system 836, the consumer can place their arms behind the strap and buckle system 836 so that the package 832 can become a backpack.

Figures 9a to 9d show another set of embodiments of the invention. For example, the package 900 of Figure 9a may be one of the packaging envelopes described above. In this example, package 900 may include a primary flap 902 to seal package 900 . In another embodiment, the package 900 may include a clasp 904 on an interior surface of the package 900 . As shown in Figure 9a, the clasp 904 appears to be on the outwardly facing surface. However, it should be on an inner surface. In one embodiment, the package 900 may be in a landscape orientation/mode rather than just a portrait orientation/mode as shown in Figure 9a.

In one embodiment, according to FIG. 9 b , when the package 900 is turned over in landscape mode, the clasp 904 is exposed, and when the package 900 is turned over, the hem 906 may be exposed. In one example, a flap 906 can be attached to one edge of the package 900 . In yet another embodiment, a snap button 908 may be provided on the hem 906 such that the snap button can be snapped to the snap button 904 . In this manner, the snaps 908 and snaps 904 may be positioned at corresponding locations on the flap 906 and the first surface, respectively. In another embodiment, the package 900 may include a cover snap 910 which may be decorative or used as an indication of the snap 908 . In another embodiment, the package 900 may be in a landscape orientation, as shown in Figure 9d. In such an embodiment, the reversed package 900 can be used as a jewelry pouch or envelope.

In yet another embodiment, Figures 10a and 10b illustrate another aspect of a package according to some embodiments. Similar to some of the above discussions, package 1000 may be in the form of an envelope, and may A flap 1002 is included to seal the package 1000 prior to receipt by the consumer. Once turned inside out, the package 1000 can include a drawstring strap 1004 so that the consumer can carry the package 1000 on her back. In another embodiment, the package 1000 may further include an indicator 1006 to indicate the presence or possible passage of a drawstring inside.

In alternative embodiments, aspects of the invention may be in a form for receiving larger items such as shoes or the like. In such a configuration, the package 1100 may resemble a cuboid with a first panel 1102 having a shipping label panel 1110 to open the package 1100, as shown in FIGS. 11a and 11b. In one embodiment, panel 1102 can be detached from three sides of package 1100 . In another embodiment, the panel 1102 can be detached in one or more ways, such as via at least one zipper. In one embodiment, a lock 1104 may be provided to secure the panel 1102 . In another embodiment, the panels 1102 may be secured using pull-down zippers. With the panel 1102 in the open position and turned upside down, as shown in Figure 11b, a handle 1106 may be provided. In one aspect, based on the fact that the shipping label panel 1110 is now on the inside of the panel 1102, the flipped state is indicated in FIG. 11b.

In some embodiments, the package shown in at least one of the figures in question can be manufactured from panels or sheets of recycled material that can be joined together at their edges using heat or hand stitching. For example, the material may include antimicrobial or antiviral material or one or more treatment materials that perform such treatment on fabrics, washable materials, water repellent or to some extent water repellent. In some embodiments, the packaging can include a surface antimicrobial or an antiviral film that can be removed after the consumer receives the packaging. In some other embodiments, the loop or pull patch 306 may also be secured to the interior edge of the package by heat or hand stitching.

In some embodiments, the package as shown in at least one of the figures in question can take a variety of shapes and configurations, such as one side being operatively open while the other three sides are fixedly closed, or three One side can be operatively opened and one side is fixedly closed.

In some embodiments, the operable open side may include a total of four flaps or lips for sealing. Optionally, the four flaps or lips or parts thereof are removable and reengageable with the package. In some embodiments, the operable open sides can include closure mechanisms such as hook and loop systems (eg, Velcro®), ties, snaps, tape, hems, and buckles.

In some embodiments, the package may further include a zipper or other tamper-resistant lock or seal.

In some embodiments, the first or first outer surface may include a pocket-shaped label or pocket thereon. In some embodiments, the consumer can remove the packages when they receive them, eg, they are stitched or glued.

In some embodiments, the interior of the package may include one or more hang pockets. In some embodiments, the pockets may include zippers or snaps or other closure mechanisms.

Additionally, in some embodiments, similar to Figure 4c, the package may further include additional liners, such as foam, bubble board, cushioning, insulating inlays, for further protection of fragile items, and the like. In some embodiments, a portion of the packaging may include premium materials such as leather or the like. In another embodiment, aluminum liners (eg, for cooler bags) or foam inlays (eg, for insulating/fragile items) may be used. It should also be understood that one or more layers of material or liner may be used without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention.

In some embodiments, aspects of the invention have the appearance of the typical shape of a shipping package, except for some specific branding. For example, there may be no handles on the outside of the package. However, in the inverted state of the package, the package may include: a set of handles/straps, drawstrings, shoulder straps, etc. In some embodiments, the handle or strap may be permanently fixed or removably attached.
