Description

Portable electronic devices

The present invention relates to an electronic device, and more particularly to a portable electronic device having an electrostatic guide.

In a low humidity environment, the user's skin surface will gradually accumulate charge due to friction with clothing or other objects. In this case, if the user touches the electronic device recklessly, the charge on the skin surface will generate electrostatic discharge (ESD) and flow into the electronic device. These unexpected charges may cause the electronic device to fail temporarily or even cause permanent damage to the electronic device. Therefore, how to provide an electronic device that can effectively guide static electricity has become an issue that needs to be solved urgently in this field.

In some embodiments, a portable electronic device is provided. The second part is connected to the first part, and the second part includes a second shell, a user input interface, a power connector, and an electrostatic guide. The second shell is pivoted to the first shell, and the second shell has an upper surface and a lower surface opposite to each other. The user input interface is disposed on the upper surface of the second shell. The power connector is disposed in the second shell and electrically connects the display screen and the user input interface, wherein the power connector includes a ground terminal. The electrostatic guide is disposed on the upper surface of the second shell, and the electrostatic guide is electrically connected to the ground terminal.

In order to make the features and advantages of the present disclosure more clearly understood, various embodiments are specifically cited below and described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

In order to make the purpose, features and advantages of the present invention more clearly understood, specific embodiments of the present invention are specifically listed below and described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Certain terms are used in the specification and patent application to refer to specific components. Those skilled in the art should understand that hardware manufacturers may use different terms to refer to the same component. This specification and patent application do not use differences in names as a way to distinguish components, but use differences in the functions of components as the criterion for distinction. The words "include" and "including" mentioned throughout the specification and patent application are open terms and should be interpreted as "including but not limited to". The word "substantially" means that within an acceptable error range, those skilled in the art can solve the technical problem within a certain error range and achieve the basic technical effect. In addition, the word "coupled" in this specification includes any direct and indirect electrical connection means. Therefore, if a first device is described herein as being coupled to a second device, it means that the first device may be directly electrically connected to the second device, or may be indirectly electrically connected to the second device via other devices or connection means.

It should be understood that for the sake of clarity, some elements of the device are omitted in the drawings and only some elements are schematically shown. In some embodiments, additional components may be added to the following device. In other embodiments, some components of the following device may be replaced or omitted. It should be understood that in some embodiments, additional operating steps may be provided before, during and/or after the method of forming the device. In some embodiments, some operating steps may be replaced or omitted, and the order of some operating steps is interchangeable.

For existing portable electronic devices such as laptop computers, the entire electrostatic discharge (ESD) process may take only 0.1μs, and the average power generated is as high as several kilowatts. In this case, the charge generated by electrostatic discharge is enough to melt the various electronic components inside the portable electronic device, or at least enough to melt the solder paste, solder balls and other adhesive materials on these electronic components. This may cause the portable electronic device to fail. Therefore, the present disclosure provides an electrostatic guide on the outer shell of the portable electronic device, and couples the electrostatic guide to the ground terminal of the power connector to effectively conduct the charge of the user's hand to the ground before the electrostatic discharge (ESD) phenomenon occurs, thereby realizing a portable electronic device with a long service life and good safety.

The connector has a live terminal, a neutral terminal, and a ground terminal. Such a connector can be used to couple a voltage of 100V to 120V. However, the present disclosure is not limited to this. In other embodiments, the connector may have two live terminals and one ground terminal. Such a connector can be used to couple a voltage of 200V to 240V. It is worth mentioning that the above-mentioned configuration and the coupled voltage are only examples, and the configurations known to those of ordinary skill in the art can be applied to the present disclosure, but the connector must have a ground terminal.

As shown in FIG. 1 , the electrostatic guide 106 is disposed on the upper surface 1020 of the second housing 102 and is electrically connected to the ground terminal of the power connector 105. Specifically, the conductivity of the electrostatic guide 106 is greater than that of the first housing 100 and the second housing 102, so that when the user's hand is charged, the charge is conducted along the electrostatic guide 106 to the ground terminal of the power connector 105. In this way, the charge can be prevented from entering the electronic components (e.g., the motherboard, processor, etc. in the processing assembly 104) located therein along the first housing 100 or the second housing 102, thereby effectively reducing the harm of electrostatic discharge (ESD).

In some embodiments, the friction coefficient of the electrostatic guide 106 may be greater than the friction coefficient of the second housing 102. For example, the surface of the electrostatic guide 106 may have anti-slip textures, such as herringbone textures, diamond textures, wave textures, combinations thereof, or other suitable textures, to prevent the user's hand from unexpectedly sliding relative to the second housing 102. Alternatively, a material with high conductivity and high friction coefficient may be provided on the surface of the electrostatic guide 106 by coating, printing, bonding, etc., to achieve similar or identical effects as described above.

In some embodiments, the electrostatic guide 106 may be or may include a conductive material. For example, the conductive material may be or may include a metal, a metal compound, other suitable conductive materials or a combination thereof, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto. For example, the metal may be tin (Sn), copper (Cu), gold (Au), silver (Ag), nickel (Ni), indium (In), platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd), iridium (Ir), titanium (Ti), chromium (Cr), tungsten (W), aluminum (Al), molybdenum (Mo), titanium (Ti), magnesium (Mg), zinc (Zn), germanium (Ge), or an alloy thereof. For example, the metal compound may be tantalum nitride (TaN), titanium nitride (TiN), tungsten silicide (WSi 2 ), indium tin oxide (ITO), etc.

By selecting the above materials or materials similar to the above materials, and ensuring that the conductivity of the electrostatic guide 106 is greater than the conductivity of the first shell 100 and the second shell 102, the effect of guiding charge (and preventing the user's hand from slipping) can be achieved. In the following, different aspects of the electrostatic guide 106 will be provided to make the characteristics and advantageous effects of the present disclosure more clearly understood.

As shown in FIG. 1 , in some embodiments, the electrostatic guide 106 is located around the upper surface 1020 of the second housing 102. For example, the electrostatic guide 106 can be disposed on a side of the user input interface 103 away from the first portion 10a, that is, disposed on a side of the user input interface 103 adjacent to the user. In this way, when the user's wrist rests on the portable electronic device 1, the charge on the user's hand can be conducted along the electrostatic guide 106 to the ground terminal of the power connector 105. However, the present disclosure is not limited to the above configuration. As shown in the figure, the electrostatic guide 106 can also surround multiple sides of the user input interface 103 to form more contact surfaces between the electrostatic guide 106 and the user. For example, the electrostatic guide 106 may surround three sides of the user input interface 103, as shown in FIG. 1. Alternatively, the electrostatic guide 106 may completely surround four sides of the user input interface 103.

Referring to FIG. 3, FIG. 4 and FIG. 6, FIG. 6 is a schematic diagram showing a block portion of an electrostatic guide according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in the figure, in some embodiments, the electrostatic guide 106 may include a strip-shaped block portion 106a, and the block portion 106a is disposed on the lower cover 102b of the second housing 102. On the other hand, the upper cover 102a of the second housing 102 may have a plurality of hollow portions 1023, and these hollow portions 1023 correspond to the block portion of the electrostatic guide 106. In other words, when the upper cover 102a and the lower cover 102b of the second housing 102 are assembled together, the hollow portion 1023 of the upper cover 102a exposes the block portion 106a of the electrostatic guide 106. In some embodiments, the electrostatic guide 106 is coplanar with the upper surface 1020 of the upper cover 102a of the second housing 102. In this way, when the user operates the portable electronic device 1, the collision between the hand and the electrostatic guide 106 can be reduced.

In some embodiments, the width w1 of the block portion 106a of the electrostatic guide 106 may be the same as or similar to the width w2 of the hollow portion 1023, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto. In some embodiments, the width w1 of the block portion 106a of the electrostatic guide 106 may be between 5 mm and 50 mm, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto. In some embodiments, the block portion 106a of the electrostatic guide 106 may also have a supporting recess 106b corresponding to the user's wrist, so as to serve as an additional support to reduce the burden on the user's hand. The supporting portion 106b is recessed downward from the upper surface of the block portion 106a. In some embodiments, there may be a height difference h between the block portion 106a of the electrostatic guide 106 and the upper surface 1020 of the upper cover 102a, and the height difference h is between 1 mm and 25 mm, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto. For example, the height difference h may be 1 mm, 2 mm, 5 mm, 10 mm, 15 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, or any value or range therebetween.

In some embodiments, the electrostatic guide 106 may have a rectangular shape when viewed from a top view, and may be disposed on the periphery of the upper surface 1020 of the second housing 102, as shown in FIG. 1. Referring to FIG. 8, it is a schematic diagram showing a portable electronic device according to some other embodiments of the present disclosure. In some embodiments, the electrostatic guide 106 may also have a wave shape when viewed from a top view, and may be disposed on the periphery of the upper surface 1020 of the second housing 102. Referring to FIG. 9, it is a schematic diagram showing a portable electronic device according to some other embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in the figure, in some embodiments, the electrostatic guide 106 may also include a plurality of electrostatic guide sub-pieces 106c disposed at intervals, and these electrostatic guide sub-pieces 106b may have a circular shape, an elliptical shape, a rectangular shape, a diamond shape, a polygonal shape, an irregular shape, a combination thereof, or other suitable shapes. In some embodiments, the distance d between two adjacent electrostatic guide sub-pieces 106c of the electrostatic guide 106 may be between 5 mm and 50 mm, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto. In some embodiments, the distances d between multiple sub-components may be similar or equal, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto.

106。As shown in FIG. 9 , in some embodiments, in addition to the electrostatic guide 106 being disposed on the upper surface 1020 of the second housing 102 of the portable electronic device 1, the electrostatic guide 106 may also be disposed at other locations of the portable electronic device 1. For example, the electrostatic guide 106 may be disposed on the side surface 1022 of the second housing 102 to increase the contact surface area between the electrostatic guide 106 and the user to a greater extent. Alternatively, the electrostatic guide 106 may also be disposed for specific components on the second housing 102.
