Abstract

An apparatus and method for adjusting brightness of light emitting diodes (LEDs) are disclosed, the apparatus comprising: a plurality of parallel-aligned LEDs; a plurality of loads, each being arranged in response to a corresponding LED out of the plural LEDs so as to control the current flowing toward the corresponding LED as well as the ON/OFF of the same; a plurality of nodes, being arranged corresponding to the plural LEDs and the plural loads so as to facilitate voltage reading; an analog-to-digital converter, capable of performing an analog-to-digital conversion upon voltage signals acquired from the plural nodes; a micro control unit (MCU), capable of accessing the voltages of the plural nodes in a successive manner while consulting to a look-up table with respect to each accessed voltage so as to obtain a current corresponding thereto, and thereafter, compare the current to a standard value so as to a compensating current signal accordingly for enabling the current to be compensated to the standard value; a serial interface, arranged between the analog-to-digital converter and the MCU for transmitting signals between the two; a pulse width modulation (PWM) generator, executing an operation for compensating the current to the standard value while receiving the compensating current signal from the MCU; a N-bit latch output port register, for controlling the output power of the PWM generator.
