Abstract

Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase (FDA) triosophosphate fructose-1,6 is an enzyme that reversibly catalyzes the reaction that converts it into bisphosphate. In the leaf, this enzyme is found in chloroplast (starch synthesis) and cytosol (sucrose biosynthesis). To increase sucrose production in general and in particular the starch biosynthetic ability in the leaf, transgenic plants were created to express the E. coli fda gene to improve plant yield.
