Description

The known various variants of stray masks and transparencies for filming combined images are based on color separation, on the use of color lighting, color filters, etc., which makes them completely inapplicable to color cinema.

To eliminate this drawback, it is proposed to combine images of the background and the actor on the film in the camera at the same time as the shooting. This eliminates the need for counter-cracking, and the negative, obtained immediately finished, is printed optically.

The essence of the stroboscopic combination shooting method is as follows. The actor is standing against a white backdrop. To save light, the entire frame area, which does not serve as a background for the actor, is covered with a white cassette close to the device (its border is out of focus). The illumination is adjusted to the full extent if it is in the background, the backdrop and the actor are illuminated with a white flashing light. At the same time, in moments when the backdrop is lit, the actor is not lit - and vice versa.

The shooting is done with a special camera, with a mirror obturator, rotating synchronously and in phase with the blinking light. When an actor is lit, the light goes through the lens onto a film and gives an image of the actor. When the backdrop is lit, the mirror obturator throws light onto another lens, giving an image of the black silhouette of the actor on the positive background, which goes in a separate movie channel. This backlit positive through another lens is printed on the front of the negative film through the second mirror obturator. During the opening of the filming obturator, i.e., in a / so second, the actor is shot four times and the background is printed four times in between. This almost negates the temporary parallax. The number of flashes of light, and consequently, the revolutions of the mirror shutters 200 in 1 sec.

The flashes of light are regulated in such a way as to fit only into the full opening of the obturator — or into its full closure. In periods of
