Abstract

The invention relates to a safety lock for lifts, which, when necessary, stops a descending lift cage by acting upon a cable 16 running along the lift shaft and fixed to the arresting apparatus of the lift cage. The safety lock according to the invention is constituted by a free- standing device 6 placed at optional height along the said cable and incorporating an eccentric member 14 which is manoeuvrable by means of electric signals and the locking position of which acts directly upon the cable 16 such that this is immovably clamped between the eccentric member 14 and a counter-stay 17. <IMAGE>
