Abstract

The invention relates to a process for controlling the emergency brake on a lift cage and an emergency brake in which through activation of a stop member for the lift cage such as a gripping member, at least one wedge 4 is directed between the lift conductor 6 in the lift shaft and the emergency brake body 1,2 such that the lift cage is stopped by means of the friction force which the emergency brake maintains upon the wedge 4. According to the invention, the retardation of the lift cage is measured by means of an acceleration sensor 13 and the emergency brake is controlled with reconnection on the basis of values given by the sensor, so that the friction force between the brake surfaces 16,17 of the emergency brake and the lift conductor remains essentially constant. <IMAGE>
