Abstract

A rail wheel has rubber elements (14) arranged between wheel tyre (13) and wheel disc (12), and at least one brake ring (15, 16), is disposed at a respective one of the sides of the wheel. Screws (17), which are parallel to the wheel axis and extend through the wheel disc (13) with play, are provided for the fastening of the or each brake ring (15, 16). A slide ring (20), which lies between two substantially radial guide surfaces is associated with each screw (17) on at least one side of the wheel disc, whereby the ring(s) may expand during braking without stress. As shown, the slide ring (20) is arranged on a protruding portion of a stressed sleeve (19) through which screw (17) passes and the guide surfaces are on respective projections (22) on brake ring (16), the slide rings (20) and projections (22) can be interchanged so that the slide rings lie on the inner side of the brake rings and the projections are on wheel disc. In place of sleeves (19) slide rings (20) can be integral with wheel disc (13) or tube elements scan be inserted (e.g. welded) into the wheel disc. <IMAGE>
