Description
本出願は、2009年10月1日に出願された「ION INDUCED IMPACT IONIZATION DETECTOR AND HIGH-RESOLUTION IONIZING TRACK STRUCTURE IMAGING METHOD」という名称の米国仮特許出願第61/247,916号及び2009年10月26日に出願された「ION INDUCED IMPACT IONIZATION DETECTOR AND USES THEREOF」という名称の米国仮特許出願第61/255,053号の米国特許法第119条(e)による優先権の利益を主張し、これらの出願はそれぞれ、参照によりその全体が本明細書に援用され、本明細書の一部とみなされる。
Claims (34)
- イオン誘起衝突電離検出器であって、
第1の面及び第2の面を有し、複数のアパーチャを画定するアノードと、
第1の面及び第2の面を有する誘電体層であって、該誘電体層の前記第1の面はアノードの前記第1の面に隣接して配置され、該誘電体層は2mm〜50mmの厚さを有する、誘電体層と、
前記誘電体層を貫通して延在する複数のウェルであって、前記アノードの前記複数のアパーチャは、該複数のウェルと前記アノードの前記第2の面との間に開口を画定するように、該複数のウェルに対して配置され、前記複数のウェルのそれぞれは、前記厚さの1/10から1/1の厚さの範囲にある幅を有する、複数のウェルと、
前記誘電体層の前記第2の面に隣接して配置されて、前記複数のウェルのそれぞれの底部を形成するカソードと、
を備え、前記複数のウェルのそれぞれにおいて単一電離イベントに感度を有し、100トル未満の圧力の環境に維持され、
前記アノード及び前記カソードは、600V〜900Vの電位差を与えられる、イオン誘起衝突電離検出器。 - 前記厚さは3.2mmである、請求項1に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。
- 前記厚さは2mm〜5mmの範囲にある、請求項1に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。
- 前記アノードは、導電性材料の1つ又は複数の層を備える、請求項1に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。
- 前記カソードは、抵抗性カソード層を備える、請求項1に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。
- 前記アノード及び前記カソードは、前記誘電体層の厚さと同じ厚さである距離だけ分離される、請求項1に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。
- 第1の配向で構成され、前記誘電体層の前記第1の面上に配設された第1の複数の読出しストリップと、
イオンを検出したウェルの識別を可能にするために、第2の配向で構成され、前記第1の複数の読出しストリップ上に配設された第2の複数の読出しストリップと、
を更に備える、請求項1に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。 - 前記第1の配向及び前記第2の配向は、X配向及びY配向を規定するように垂直である、請求項7に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。
- 同時にイオンを検出した2つ以上のウェルの確定を可能にするために、第3の配向で構成され、前記第2の複数の読出しストリップ上に配設された第3の複数の読出しストリップを更に備える、請求項7に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。
- 前記第1の配向、前記第2の配向及び前記第3の配向は、X配向、U配向及びV配向を規定する、請求項9に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。
- 前記複数のウェルはそれぞれ、円柱形状を有し、前記開口はそれぞれ、或る直径を有する円を規定する、請求項1に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。
- 前記直径は、前記厚さの1/3となるように選択される、請求項1に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。
- 前記直径は、前記厚さの1/4から前記厚さの1/3の範囲にあるように選択される、請求項1に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。
- 前記複数のウェルは、2つの隣接した開口のエッジ間にピッチ距離を規定するようにアレイで配列され、前記ピッチは、該ピッチと前記直径との比が1〜5の範囲にあるように選択される、請求項1に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。
- 前記ピッチと前記直径との前記比は、1.1〜3の範囲である、請求項14に記載のイオン誘起衝突電離検出器。
- 検出器システムであって、
或る容積の低圧ガスを有する格納容器と、
前記容積の低圧ガス内に配設されたドリフトアノードと、
請求項1に記載の前記イオン誘起衝突電離検出器であって、前記ドリフトアノードと該イオン誘起衝突電離検出器の前記アノードとの間に検出ガス容積を規定するために、前記容積の低圧ガス内に配設され、前記ウェルは、前記開口に起因して、前記容積の低圧ガス内と同じ低圧を有し、前記ガスの前記低圧は1トル以上100トル未満の範囲である、前記イオン誘起衝突電離検出器と、
前記ドリフトアノード並びに前記イオン誘起衝突電離検出器の前記アノード及び前記カソードに結合された電源であって、前記イオン誘起衝突電離検出器の前記アノードはグラウンド電位にあり、前記ドリフトアノードは、グラウンドに対して正電位にあり、前記カソードは、グラウンドに対して負電位にあるようにされ、前記正電位は、前記イオン誘起衝突電離検出器の前記アノードに向かう正イオンをドリフトさせる第1の電界を前記検出ガス容積内に与えるように選択され、前記負電位は、前記正イオンがドリフトして入る前記ウェル内で制限されたガイガーアバランシェを提供するように選択される、電源と、を備える検出器システム。 - 前記ガスの前記低圧は、1トル〜10トルの範囲である、請求項16に記載の検出器システム。
- 前記負電位は、前記ウェル内の電界強度が、該ウェル内の前記ガスの絶縁破壊に関連する閾値より大きくなるように選択される、請求項16に記載の検出器システム。
- 前記負電位は、前記ウェル内の前記電界強度が、該ウェルの表面における電界放出破壊に関連する閾値より小さくなるように選択される、請求項18に記載の検出器システム。
- 前記ウェル、該ウェルの間の間隔、及び前記負電位の1つ又は複数の大きさは、前記ウェル内で形成された電界が、別の到来イオンを別の近くのウェルに向けるために前記イオン誘起アバランシェ進行として変化することが可能であるように選択される、請求項16に記載の検出器システム。
- 粒子を検出する方法であって、
請求項1に記載の前記イオン誘起衝突電離検出器を使用して、前記単一電離イベントによって電離された1つ又は複数の正イオンを検出すること、
を含む方法。 - 前記アノードの前記第2の面をガスにさらすことと、
前記イオン誘起衝突電離検出器を囲む環境を10トル未満の圧力に維持することと、を更に含む、請求項21に記載の方法。 - 負電圧を前記カソードに印加することと、
正イオンが前記セルに入ると、前記ウェル内の前記ガスのアバランシェ絶縁破壊が生じるように、前記アノードをグラウンド電位に維持し、前記アバランシェの結果、電荷の検出可能な集合体が生じることと、
を更に含む、請求項22に記載の方法。 - 前記印加される負電圧は600V〜900Vの範囲であり、
前記作動圧は10トル未満であるように選択される、請求項23に記載の方法。 - 前記作動圧は2トル未満であるように選択され、
前記負電圧は、2000V/(cm・トル)の値を有する、電界強度を圧力で割った量(E/p)を生じるように選択される、請求項24に記載の方法。 - 請求項1に記載の前記イオン誘起衝突電離検出器を備える飛跡イオン検出器。
- 請求項1に記載の前記イオン誘起衝突電離検出器を備える質量分析計、イオン移動度分光計、又はガスクロマトグラフ。
- イオン検出器素子であって、
複数のアパーチャを画定するアノードと、
第1の面及び第2の面を有する絶縁体層であって、該絶縁体層の前記第1の面は前記アノードに隣接して配設され、該絶縁体層は2mm〜50mmの範囲の厚さを有する、絶縁体層と、
前記絶縁体層の前記第2の面に隣接して配設されたカソードと、
を備え、
前記絶縁体層は、該絶縁体層の前記第1の面と前記第2の面との間に延在する複数のウェルを画定し、前記複数のウェルのそれぞれは、前記厚さの1/10から1/1の厚さの範囲にある幅を有し、1トル〜10トルの圧力のガスを与えられ、前記アノード及び前記カソードは、600V〜900Vの電位差を与えられ、単一電離イベントに感度を有する、イオン検出器素子。 - 請求項28に記載の前記イオン検出器素子のうちの1つ又は複数を備える、ガスクロマトグラフ。
- 請求項28に記載の前記イオン検出器素子のうちの1つ又は複数を備える、イオン移動度分光計。
- 前記分光計は、爆発物、薬物、及び化学兵器に関連する1つ又は複数の化学物質の痕跡量を検出するように構成される、請求項30に記載のイオン移動度分光計。
- 前記検出器素子に入射するイオンの空間的決定を可能にするために、アレイで配列された請求項28に記載の複数の前記イオン検出器素子を備える、イオン検出器。
- 請求項32に記載の前記イオン検出器アレイを備える、線量計。
- 請求項32に記載の前記イオン検出器アレイを備える、質量分析計。
