他の一つの実施形態において、前記第1領域と第2領域は、格子パターンに互いに隣接して相互に配置されてもよい。この場合には、第1および第2領域も格子パターンに互いに隣接して相互に配置されていて、前記溝は液晶配向膜表面の法線方向から観察するときに前記第1および第2領域の境界で前記第1または第2領域と重なるように配置されてもよい。
他の例示としては、前記RGおよびLG領域のいずれか1つの領域はλ/2波長層であり、他の領域は光学的に等方性である領域とすることができる。このような場合に、RGおよびLG領域をそれぞれ透過したRおよびL信号は、実質的に互いに垂直した方向に偏光軸を有するように、直線偏光された光の形態で3D装置から出射されることができる。
ピッチが540μmの47インチ用FPR(Film Patterned Retard)において、液晶配向能が互いに相違する2つの領域の境界に幅が100μmの溝を形成し、光遮断物質で充填させて実施例1のFPRを製造した。図20は、実施例1のFPRが立体映像表示装置用パネルに付着された場合、視野角による相対輝度を示す。図20に示すように、実施例1のFPRを使用する場合、光遮断領域であるBM(Black Matrix)がないパネルに比べて、正面に対し81.5%の相対輝度を示す。これにより、溝に光遮断物質が充填されたFPRを使用した場合、立体映像表示装置の輝度が向上されることがわかった。
ピッチが540μmの47インチ用FPRにおいて、液晶配向能が互いに相違する2つの領域の境界に幅が100μmの溝を形成し、光遮断物質と光反射物質で充填させて実施例2のFPRを製造した。図20は、実施例2のFPRが立体映像表示装置用パネルに付着された場合、視野角による相対輝度を示す。図20に示すように、実施例2のFPRを使用した場合、光遮断領域であるBM(Black Matrix)がないパネルに比べて、正面に対し81.5%の輝度を示す。さらに、視野角が増加するにつれて視野角30度ではBMがないパネルに比べて90%まで相対輝度が上昇する。これにより、溝に光遮断物質と光反射物質が充填されたFPRを使用した場合、立体映像表示装置において、光遮断効果と輝度向上効果が同時に発揮されるだけでなく、視野角による輝度向上効果も優れることがわかった。
液晶配向膜に溝を形成せず、液晶配向膜上に光遮断膜を直接形成させて比較例1のFPRを製造した。図21は、比較例1(a)と実施例1(b)とにおけるFPRの光遮断効果を比較した結果である。図21に示すように、同一の100μm幅でパターンを形成する場合、比較例1のように溝を形成せず、光遮断膜を直接形成した場合は80%の領域を遮断膜として使用することが可能であり、実施例1のように溝を形成し、光遮断物質を充填させた場合は98%の領域を遮断膜として使用することが可能であった。比較例1のように、液晶配向膜の上に溝なしに光遮断膜を直接形成させた場合、光遮断膜の形成領域と光遮断膜が形成されない領域との位置による高差のために、光遮断効果が光遮断膜形成パターンの幅に比べて減少される。

- 5〜300μmの範囲内の幅と0.5〜5μmの範囲内の深さを有し、同一方向に延びるストライプ形状を有しながら離隔されて配置される2つ以上の溝が表面に形成されている第1層、および前記第1層の前記表面上に形成されている液晶配向層を含む液晶配向膜と、
前記液晶配向層上に形成され、位相遅延特性が互いに相違する第1および第2領域を有する液晶層と、
を含み、
離隔されて配置されている前記溝間のピッチが50〜1000μmの範囲内であり、
