Description
青色LEDの一次放出光を黄色の蛍光体によって放出された光と混合させる二色型照明システムが、米国特許第5,998,925号に記載される。Y3Al5O12:Ce3+蛍光体がIII族窒化物LED上を覆い、該LEDから放出された青色光の一部が、該蛍光体によって黄色光に変換される。LEDからの青色光の他の部分は、蛍光体を透過する。このように、このシステムは、LEDから放出される青色光と、蛍光体から放出される黄色光との両方を放出する。青色発光帯及び黄色発光帯の混合光は、約75から約80までの間のCRIと約6000Kから約8000Kまでの範囲の色温度TCとを持つ白色光として、見るものに認識される。
赤色の不足を補償する照明システムが、図1に示され、米国特許第6,351,069号により詳細に記載される。図1のLED34は、良好な演色をもたらす照明を提供するために、色に関してバランスのとれた白色光出力を生成するように設計される。LED34は、リフレクタ・カップ状リード・フレーム14上に位置決めされ、リード線16及び18に電気的に連結された窒化ガリウム(GaN)ダイ12を含む。リード線16及び18は、励起電力をGaNダイ12に供給する。GaNダイ12は、一般に、正方形の形状にすることができる。好ましい実施形態においては、GaNダイ12は、光スペクトルの青色領域内にある470nmのピーク波長を有する一次光、すなわち青色光を放出するように作られる。GaNダイ12は、透明材料で作られたスペーサ層36で覆われる。この透明材料は、透明エポキシ又はガラスとすることができる。
以下に記載される実施形態は、2つの蛍光体と組み合わされた青色LEDと、3つの蛍光体と組み合わされた紫外線LEDとに言及しているが、より多くの又はより少ない蛍光体と、他の光を放出するLEDとを用いることができることが理解される。
図8は、LCDディスプレイの側面図である。LEDのアレイ24が、バックライト26の後部パネル上に取り付けられる。バックライト26は、拡散カバー・プレート40で覆われる。拡散体40は、例えばアクリル又はガラスで作られ、光を拡散するように粗い表面を持つ。代替的に、拡散体40は、アクリル又はガラスのシートと共に、光散乱粒子を備えることもできる。多くの種類の拡散体が知られており、バックライト26で用いることができる。バックライト26の光出力が、拡散体がなくても十分に拡散される場合は、拡散体40の代わりに透明プレートを用いることができる。例えば3Mによって製造される、例えばBrightness Enhancement Film及びDual Brightness Enhancement Filmといった、輝度又は効率を増加させるための付加的なフィルム(図示せず)を、拡散体の上面のLCD直前に用いてもよい。
図8に示されるディスプレイ装置においては、蛍光体配置は、等価輝度及び色域を最大にするように選択される。

Claims (12)
- 第1のピーク波長を有する第1の光を放出することができる半導体発光素子と、
前記第1の光を吸収することができ、かつ、前記第1のピーク波長より長い第2のピーク波長を有する第2の光を放出することができる第1の波長変換物質を含む第1の蛍光物質層と、
前記第2のピーク波長より長い第3のピーク波長を有する第3の光を放出することができる第2の波長変換物質を含み、前記半導体発光素子に隣接して配置された第2の蛍光物質層と、
を備え、
前記第1の蛍光物質層が、前記半導体発光素子上の少なくとも第1の部分に配置され、
前記第2の蛍光物質層が、前記半導体発光素子上の少なくとも第2の部分に配置され、
前記第1の部分が前記第2の部分に隣接し、
前記第1の蛍光物質層が、前記半導体発光素子上の第1の複数の個別領域に配置された、及び/又は、前記第2の蛍光物質層が、前記半導体発光素子上の第2の複数の個別領域に配置された、
ことを特徴とするシステム。 - 前記第1の蛍光物質層が、前記半導体発光素子上の第1の複数の個別領域に配置され、
前記第2の蛍光物質層が、前記半導体発光素子上の第2の複数の個別領域に配置された、
ことを特徴とする、請求項1に記載のシステム。 - 前記第1の複数の個別領域及び前記第2の複数の個別領域が、格子模様を形成することを特徴とする、請求項2に記載の方法。
- 第1のピーク波長を有する第1の光を放出することができる半導体発光素子と、
前記第1の光を吸収することができ、かつ、前記第1のピーク波長より長い第2のピーク波長を有する第2の光を放出することができる第1の波長変換物質を含む第1の蛍光物質層と、
前記第2のピーク波長より長い第3のピーク波長を有する第3の光を放出することができる第2の波長変換物質を含み、前記半導体発光素子に隣接して配置された第2の蛍光物質層と、
を備え、
前記第1の蛍光物質層が、前記半導体発光素子上の少なくとも第1の部分に配置され、
前記第2の蛍光物質層が、前記半導体発光素子上の少なくとも第2の部分に配置され、
前記第1の部分が前記第2の部分に隣接し、
前記第2の蛍光物質層が、前記半導体発光素子上の複数の個別領域に配置され、
前記第1の蛍光物質層が、更に、前記第2の蛍光物質層上に重なるように構成される、
ことを特徴とする、システム。 - 前記第1のピーク波長が青色であり、
前記第2のピーク波長が緑色であり、
前記第3のピーク波長が赤色である、
ことを特徴とする、請求項1に記載のシステム。 - 前記第1のピーク波長が青色であり、
前記第2のピーク波長が黄色であり、
前記第3のピーク波長が赤色である、
ことを特徴とする、請求項1に記載のシステム。 - 前記第1の波長変換物質が、0<x<1、0<y<1、0<z≦0.1、0<a≦0.2、及び0<b≦0.1である(Lu1-x-y-a-bYxGdy)3(Al1-zGaz)5O12:Cea 3+Prb 3+と、Lu3Al5O12:Ce3+と、Y3Al5O12:Ce3+と、a=0.002〜0.2、b=0.0〜0.25、c=0.0〜0.25、x=1.5〜2.5、y=1.5〜2.5、z=1.5〜2.5である(Sr1-a-bCabBac)SixNyOz:Eua 2+と、SrSi2N2O2:Eu2+と、(Sr1-u-v-xMguCavBax)(Ga2-y-zAlyInzS4):Eu2+と、SrGa2S4:Eu2+と、Sr1-xBaxSiO4:Eu2+との群から選択されることを特徴とする、請求項1又は2に記載のシステム。
- 前記第2の波長変換物質が、0<x≦1である(Ca1-xSrx)S:Eu2+と、CaS:Eu2+と、SrS:Eu2+と、0≦a<5、0<x≦1、0≦y≦1、及び0<z≦1である(Sr1-x-yBaxCay)2-zSi5-aAlaN8-aOa:Euz 2+と、Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+との群から選択されることを特徴とする、請求項1又は2に記載のシステム。
- 前記第1の蛍光物質層及び前記第2の蛍光物質層の少なくとも1つが、波長変換物質ではない第2の物質を含み、前記第2の物質が、樹脂、シリコン、及びシリカの群から選択されることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載のシステム。
- 第4のピーク波長を有する第4の光を放出することができる第3の波長変換物質を含む第3の蛍光物質層をさらに備えることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載のシステム。
- 前記第1のピーク波長がUVであり、
前記第2のピーク波長が青色であり、
前記第3のピーク波長が赤色であり、
前記第4のピーク波長が緑色である、
ことを特徴とする、請求項10に記載のシステム。 - 前記第1の蛍光物質層が、ある量の第2の波長変換物質からなることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載のシステム。
