前記導波光ビームの一部分をカップリングして外へ出し、前記カップリングして外へ出される部分を前記平板ライトガイドから離れるように方向付けるように構成されたマルチビーム回折格子であって、前記カップリングして外へ出される部分が、異なる主極大角度方向を有する複数の光ビームを備える、マルチビーム回折格子と、
前記複数の光ビームを遮るように位置付けられた切り替え可能拡散体であって、前記複数のうちの1つの光ビームの光を選択可能な態様で通すまたは前記光ビームを散乱させるように構成された切り替え可能拡散体と

- 前記複数のうちの光ビームを選択可能な態様で通すまたは散乱させる前記ステップが、前記複数の光ビームの光を変調する前記ステップの後で実行される、請求項18に記載の2D/3D切り替え可能電子ディスプレイの動作の方法。
- 前記ライトバルブアレイが複数の液晶ライトバルブを備え、前記導波光ビームの一部分をカップリングして外へ出す前記ステップが、マルチビーム回折格子を用いて前記一部分を回折によりカップリングして外へ出すステップを備え、前記マルチビーム回折格子が、曲線状の回折特徴部を有するチャープ回折格子を備える、請求項18に記載の2D/3D切り替え可能電子ディスプレイの動作の方法。
- 前記切り替え可能拡散体が、高分子分散型液晶拡散体、電気泳動ベースの拡散体、またはエレクトロウェッティングに基づく可変拡散体から選択される電子可変拡散体である、請求項17に記載の2D/3D切り替え可能電子ディスプレイの動作の方法。
