An auxiliary wheel device to be used, wherein a plurality of divided wheel members arranged in a circumferential direction are attached to a lateral outer side of the drive wheel, each divided wheel member includes a plurality of spike members, and each divided wheel member is a wheel shaft. When the split wheel member is in the radially outer working position, the spike member projects from the outer diameter of the drive wheel, and the split wheel member is radially displaceable and fixed relative to the center. The auxiliary wheel device for a walking root crop harvester, wherein the spike member is configured to retreat inside the outer diameter of the drive wheel when in the inner storage position.
