Abstract

A building element comprises a hollow body having its cavity open to the exterior. The cavity is filled with a mixture of thermal and/or acoustic insulation material in granular or powder form together with a binder which adheres the mixture to the cavity walls. In an alternative embodiment the element comprises a slab of the insulating material mixture in which a metal reinforcement is embedded. The slab may have a configuration providing matching projections and recesses to aid bonding. The insulation material may be pumice, volcanic lapilli, vermiculite, expanded clay, or synthetic resin, while the binder may be gypsum, lime cement or a synthetic material.
