Abstract

A prosthesis has at least one part with an elastically yieldable thickness or lining, pref. in that part applied to the pelvis. The prosthesis pref. has a metal femoral part with a spherical head, and a metal acetabular part forming a seat for the heat with a plastics element defining the surface and an elastic layer between the element and the metal body to provide damping in all reaction directions. The damping layer is pref. formed of silicone or other biologically compatible elastomer. The element pref. has a corrugated yieldable zone between the seat area and a flange which is tightened between a rinq nut and the other part of the prosthesis. The damping layer may form cavities with contacting surfaces with vol. which can change in response to stresses and which are in communication with the acetabular seat and/or the spongy structure of the pelvis.
