Abstract
A new class of immunogenic compounds is described, definable by the formula (I): <IMAGE> where: D is L-lysine or poly(L-lysine) branched with a number n of L-lysine amino acid residues in α and ε amide bonds; n is an odd whole number variable from 1 to 15; m is a whole number variable from 3 to 40; R1 is the side-chain of an amino acid residue selected from L-Asp, L-His, L-Cys, L-Gln, L-Thr, L-Ala, L-Leu, L- Met, L-Phe, L-Glu, L-Arg, L-Tyr, L-Asn, L-Ser, L-Gly, L Val, L-Ile, L-Pro and L-Trp; R2 is OH or NH2; R is hydrogen or an acyl radical; and the corresponding pharmaceutically acceptable acid or base addition salts. Compounds of formula (I) are particularly suitable as antigens for the preparation of a genetically unrestricted anti-Plasmodium malariae sporozoite vaccine and in diagnostics for the determination of anti Plasmodium malariae sporozoite antibodies in samples of blood, serum and blood-spots by immunoenzymatic assay. Compounds of formula (I) are also suitable as molecule carriers for improving the immunogenicity of haptens.
