Abstract

A drive mechanism is provided for the hook and dogs of a portable sewing machine, to co-operate with the needle to form the chain stitching. An alternating movement is provided for the dogs to effect the advance of the sewing material. A cam is fixed on the driving shaft of the motor which co-operates through its curved profile with the sprung hook which oscillates on first and second shafts, and is jointed to a connecting rod, itself jointed to a controllable support and to a support for the dogs which are further supported by a oscillating supports fixed on the frame of the sewing device. The mechanical parts of the sewing machine are reduced in number, with a consequent reduction in weight when compared with known machines. It is thus possible to increase the speed of sewing considerably, up to about 20 m/min. Further, it is possible to vary the speed of the stitch. Maintenance and adjustment operations may be reduced to a minimum.
