Abstract
Mixed polyimino derivs. of Al and alkaline earth mtals are synthesised by reacting Al, an amine, and the alkaline earth metal or its hydride or amino deriv., in the presence of H2. The reaction ispref. conducted in the presence of a hydrocarbon or ehter solvent, and an activant such as an alkali metal or Al-alkyl complex added at =5 mole % on the amine. Amino-magnesium cpds. are used as polymerisation catalysts e.g. for methacrylonitrile; for amination, e.g. for preparing alkylamides from organic acids, etc.; and for synthesising polyimino cpds. synthesis is carried out in a single step.
