Abstract

In a boiler 1, a lower part 3 of a combustion chamber 2 has vertical side wall portions 5, and an upper part 4 of the chamber has side wall portions 6 inclined inwardly with respect to the vertical side wall portions 5. A second chamber 24 is connected to the combustion chamber 2 by spaced-apart tubes 19, which extend upwardly from the combustion chamber 2 to the second chamber 24. The lower ends of the tubes 19 are located in a tube plate 20 forming the top of the combustion chamber and their upper ends are located in an upper tube plate 21 forming the bottom of the second chamber. The second chamber 24 has inwardly inclined side walls 26 and a top plate connectable to a flue. A water space 7, 22, 25 surrounds the combustion chamber 2, extends between the tube plates 20, 21 to surround each of the tubes 19, and surrounds the second chamber 24 so that heat from combustion is transferable through the side wall portions 5, 6 of the combustion chamber 2, the lower tube plate 20, the tubes 19 and the side walls 26 of the second chamber 24 to a liquid medium in the water space 7, 22, 25. <IMAGE> [GB2053430A]
