Abstract

1477077 Barges SANTA FE INTERNATIONAL CORP 21 Feb 1975 [30 Dec 1974] 7407/75 Heading E1H A barge e.g. for laying pipes comprises twin hulls 12 supporting a working deck 16 by at least six columns 22, a crane 6 moveable along tracks 62, and compartments 76 in the hulls 12 which can be ballasted to trim the vessel, e.g. to compensate for the cranes movement, and to set the vessel at an angle to prevent undue stress to the pipe being laid. A structure 100 is hinged to the stern of the vessel to support the pipe overhang. On the deck 16 the barge comprises pipe storage and supply areas 48, 44, welding units 51, and tensioners 52. The barge may be towed or self-propelled. In a further embodiment, Figs. 7 and 8, not shown, the pipe is assembled on the centre line of the vessel, and two cranes are disposed one each side of the assembly line. [GB1477077A]
