Abstract
1363883 Making exhaust systems SPIRALO HOLDING AG 21 June 1971 [25 June 1970] 28916/71 Heading B3A An exhaust pipe, silencer box and tail pipe are formed from helically seamed tubing which is made from strip profiled to give the tubing at least one helical ridge the diameter of the silencer box portion of tubing being diminished smoothly at each end for the transition to the exhaust and tail pipes. The strip from which the tubing is formed preferably has two ridges and adjacent strip turns 11, 13, are overlapped to make a gas tight helical seam (12), Fig. 3 (not shown). The box and pipes may be formed from a single strip or as separate units which can be connected by using the helical ridge(s) as screw threads. The silencer box may comprise two parts screwed to each other and with a pair of perforated pipes screwed within them. The box is pressed to oval form to make its smaller crosssection equal to the diameter of the exhaust pipe.
