Abstract

1335381 Feeding bottles LEWIS WOOLF GRIPTIGHT Ltd 19 April 1971 [4 March 1970 19 Sept 1970] 10529/70 and 44739/70 Heading A5X A feeding bottle 10 is provided with a resilient teat 17 protected by a removable cap 23, there being a member 26 sealing the interior of the bottle from the interior of the teat, the member 26 being displaceable by manipulation of the teat cap to break the seal, the manipulation being carried out with the teat cap covering the teat. As shown, the sealing member 26 fits into the outlet opening 11 of the bottle and the teat cap 23 distorts the teat so that a seal is provided between a portion 22 of the teat and the member 26. The bottle is provided pre-filled and heat sterilized and is made ready for use by first pulling the cap upwards from the teat (Fig. 2, not shown) so that the teat regains its natural shape and its seal with the member 26 is broken, and then by pushing the cap back onto the teat (Fig. 3, not shown) when a projection 21 on the inside of the teat presses the member 26 into the bottle 10 and clears the opening 11. The member 26 is retained in the upper part of the bottle (Fig. 4, not shown) since the member is larger than the bottle neck 13. In an embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), the top 30 of the bottle is frustoconical and the sealing member (36) is clamped within the teat (34) by the cap (35), and a ribbed sealing ring (37) holding the teat, cap, and sealing member to the bottle. A blow on the cap towards the bottle, dislodges the sealing member and, as in Fig. 6 (not shown), the sealing member may be in two parts (47, 48) readily separated and containing a food additive (49). An aperture (46) in the sealing member may act as a one-way valve allowing excess air in the teat to bleed into the bottle during the heat sterilization. In further embodiments (Figs. 8, 9, not shown), the sealing member (48) readily separated and containing a food additive (49). An aperture (46) in the sealing member may act as a one-way valve allowing excess air in the teat to bleed in to the bottle during the heat sterilization. In further embodiments (Figs. 8, 9, not shown), the sealing member (58, 61) extends within the teat and is manipulated by crushing the cap. [GB1335381A]
