Abstract

1304981 Container closures AMERICAN FLANGE & MFG CO Inc 19 April 1971 [2 Feb 1970] 20040/71 Heading B8T [Also n Division A5] An infant feeding bottle is, as shown in Fig. 1, a sterilized, filled bottle 1 previously sealed by an aluminium seal 10 containing a plastics gasket 20. A nipple assembly 30 is screwed onto the threads 3 of the bottle and covered by a shroud 40, the assembly 30 and shroud 40 being held on the bottle by a band 41. The seal 10 has a puncture panel 11 provided with an annular score line (12), (Fig. 3, not shown), corresponding to the wall of a hollow probe 37 provided on the nipple assembly 30. In preparation for feeding, the shroud 40 and nipple assembly 30 are screwed down on to the bottle 1, the band 41 breaking in the process, until an annular rib 36 on the assembly 30 contacts the top wall of the seal 10 by which time the probe 37 will have punctured the seal 10. The shroud 40 is then removed, allowing the bottle contents to pass through an opening in the feeding nipple 35.
