Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula and their acid addition salts, wherein R 1 is C 1-5 alkyl, R 2 and R 3 are each H, Cl, Me, Et, MeO or EtO, R 4 and R 5 are each C 1-5 alkyl, cycloalkyl. C 1-5 alkyl, C 3-5 alkenyl or C 5-7 cycloalkyl (or NR 4 R 5 forms a saturated-possibly C 1-3 alkyl or Ph substituted-monocyclic heterocyclic 5- or 6-membered ring which may contain O or a further N atom), A is a C 2-4 bivalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group and n is 1 or 2. These compounds, prepared by reduction of the corresponding pseudoindoles, may be separated into stereoisomers, and the latter may be resolved into optical isomers. Therapeutic compositions for oral, parenteral or rectal administration comprise compounds of the above formula, which have analgesic, antiphlogistic and antitussive activity.
